Just curious if anyone else loves Halloween as much as I do after being deprived of it as a kid?
I was raised by VERY religious parents and we NEVER celebrated Halloween... it was "evil", "Satan's holiday" blah blah blah... As a matter of fact we usually spent the next day cleaning egg off the house cause we were "that house" with the lights off and NO CANDY! I have actually never trick-or-treated and no family holiday memories other than "Harvest Parties" and Jack-o-lanterns which we were aloud to participate in.
When I was 13 my young adult brother, back from a recent stint at art college said "enough is enough." That year we made cardboard tombstones that melted quickly in the rain, put out cobwebs, and a single green light on the porch AND CANDY!
Ten years later my older brother and I dress up like silly kids and deck out our homes with more stuff than anyone on the block. We also host, as a grownup family affair, one of the biggest Halloween shindigs in the area, which is held, ironically, at our parents house, who are now converts to the holiday.

Not me...even my Catholic grade school had Halloween parties every year (complete with a pretty cool haunted house!)
It sounds like you need to go trick-or-treating!Zombie Eradication/Disposal Unit (ZEDU) - K-9 Patrol Division

Oh, now that is a shame! Very cool that it worked out for you in the end (especially with the parents being converts! YAY!!)
I'm sure glad my parents didn't have any hangups about it. It would have been awful celebrating my birthday....which is on Halloween
Firmly seconded on the trick or treating. You should at least go once in your lifetime

Not me personally, but after my sisters kids were born, she went off the deep end for a few years and got into the whole "Halloween is the devils holiday" nonsense and deprived her kids of everything Halloween related. Now, many years later, her daughters have kids of their own and they are having a blast dressing up with them and going trick or treating. Better late than never I say!

I'm sure eventually I'll have kids to drag around.
I might have gotten away with it at 13 or 14 but I'm very tall
Never went to prom either though as teen so I'm hoping in the future to do a Zombie Prom theme to remedy that

Hey Star Girl,
My story is similar - I was brought up in a strict religious back ground who didn't encourage halloween and finally this year im doing my first Halloween party - more of an excuse to dress up and see what I can do on a student budget! Love the story thought I was the only one

I have never celebrated Halloween, but I LOVED the holiday all the same. I remember playing my old AQ and DF accounts to play the Halloween events, so I guess that was my way of celebrating the holiday. My family is Buddhist so yeah.

I did, but my wife didn't get to celebrate hardly any holidays as a kid. Now halloween is her favorite holiday. I got grounded on my "last childhood halloween". I am still bitter about that.

I live in Australia but spent two years lving in the US with my family when I was young (6-7) so have very fond memories of Halloween there but then came back home and never celebrated as the holiday isn't popular over here.

My hubby never celebrated Halloween as a kid (Aussie also) and it wasn't until we moved in together that we had our first Halloween party as grown-upsand celbrated since I lived in the US. Now it is a tradition in our group of friends.
Think I enjoy the holiday more now I'm an adult because I can decorate my own house how we want.... plus we can have booze lolGrowing old is compulsory; growing up is optional. -- Bob Monkhouse
