I was given these jars for free at a garage sale. I love them and they would be perfect to give as my invitations. I have more than enough for a small party. Or I could make them into witches vials. The problem is they were made in the 50's or early 60's they aren't that pricy but not sure if I should destroy their worth. What would you guys do?

If collecting jars or items of that nature is important to you, then by all means I wouldn't alter them. However, if you are not a collector of they have no significant importance to you then I say go forth and make them what you want. I personally think they would make a fantastic addition to an invitation. I also think they would perfect for witch potions/ingredients. I would rather alter them and use them for what I like because otherwise they would end up boxed in my basement and never enjoyed by me. I think you have to decide if they are important to you or not. I know that I would just view them as jars and not something that I would cherish in their current state.
Good luck with a decision. If you do alter them post some pics!!!!

I would check ebay! I would just poke about and check the prices these specific types of bottles are selling for.
If they seem to be an in demand or pricey item, either preserve them the way they are or sell them.
If they are cheap and plentiful, do what you wish.
I like them alot!

Suggest modifying them with your own haunted ingredient mix label.
Include the bottle with the invite & ask guests to fill them & bring them back to the party, filled with their own creative elements that fits the label. That way you can get them back & display them prominently as a table setting / display with creepy elements.

We used to have those EXACT spice jars when I was a kid!!
So they'd have to be 50s/60s era stuff.
Here's some similar ones from Ebay with the rack. They seem to be pretty available on the auctions sites too so I don't think they're worth a ton by themselves.
I'm a sucker for that stuff, so I'd get a rack & use 'em, but that's just me. Feel free to send to me if you don't want 'em.
But seriously, if they have no sentimental value & they seem to have no major value, then just use 'em for some other use.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

Honestly....I've seen them a lot before and in fact, you can probably find them in stores like Big Lots or something similar. I bought a set like them around 10 years ago that had a wooden rack that hung on the wall.
That being said, if you like old bottles then I wouldn't alter them, but that would depend on whether you want to get potential money out of them in the future or use them for your haunt. All about personal preference when it comes to altering things for Halloween. It's Halloween, what more do you need to know.

Objectively, I doubt those Jars will ever be worth much. Currently, people that buy antique jars, looks for ones that are 1850 and prior -- so unless you plan on keeping them for another 50 years then I wouldn't worry all that much about giving away treasured goods. Also, as some have mentioned, often you'd need the rack that they came with and it appears you are missing a couple of the lids (or you just took them off for demonstrative purposes) Many buyers wouldn't even look at something unless it is 100% intact and in pristine condition -- not to mention the economy has hurt the Antique market.
Looking at these jars I would say that they make FANTASTIC invitations or favors to your guests. Perhaps like a 'Witch Vile' or something with the invitation or special note sealed inside? I think you'd get a lot more enjoyment out of the smiles from your guests than an re-selling value.
Unless of course you like things like this, then by all means keep and cherish them.

Dullahan thank you for correcting my spelling. =b I think you were the one who convinced me. My bottles will be cleaned and used as party invitations. I do not have 50 years and I don't feel a certain attachment to them either.
I appreciate all of your comments! Thank you.

I'm happy my input helped. One way or anther, they are neat jars and have lasting ability. Your guests will no doubt hold onto them for some time as a fond reminder of the party.
