So I was listening to the ice cream truck go by this evening and had a vision of a Halloween version of the truck. A zombie driver with old-fashioned Mr Goodbar, er, Goodbrains, white uniform and cap, the side of the van plastered with pictures of frozen fingers, toesickles, nutty buddy brain cones, etc. Halloween music played in eerie cheerful tones. Little TOTs running after the truck, some under the wheels of the truck.

No space or time to do it, but sounded like a fun scene. Might be fun to show up at one of those Trunk or Treat gatherings with this truck.

Now that would be awesome! Especially if you could get the truck for cheap...

njwilk, how you get so smart? That's a fantastic idea. And you've just made that little song they play as they go by a little more bearable. So awesome.

Our local ice cream truck is actually just a full-size van. If we weren't a one-car family, I'd be tempted to turn our van into the I scream truck. Cover it in enough signs and posters, put a skeleton in the driver's seat, I think I could pull it off. But i think my partner would have a fit if she had to be somewhere in the days before Halloween, so probably not a good idea.
On the other hand, I guess I could spring for a rental for her.

I rented an ice cream truck for a few days when I was a teenager, just trying something different. Man those things are sensitive on the steering! I felt like I was in a very scary video game and had jumped the curb! Thankfully everything was alright but it was scary!

They let you rent them for what the ice cream and candy is worth (around $45), so you have to make at least that much in a day before you get the income from sales after $45 in sales. Also you have to put gas in separately and fill it up.

Maybe check around some places and see about renting out the truck for the day. I had to have it back by 7 or 8pm at night so that should be plenty of time for a trunk or treat ride up.

You can always get the banners online for cheap with custom designs and attach them with rope or magnet material , perhaps tacky stuff thats removable. The magnets would be cool because you just need to magnetize the banner, no attaching anything to the truck.

I dont know about changing the music however, Im unsure if its wise to tell the truck rental about your plans for the truck that evening or not I do know they for sure care about having the cash to pay for the candy sold or not.

Heres some vintage carts for ice cream that would be cool with some work. They are already rusty http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/atq/2497195431.html

Ooo, that could be fun. Set up a series of speakers that play in sequence from one end of my neighbor's yard around the corner to the end of my yard. Scatter a few dead bodies clutching ice cream wrappers along the way.

    Exactly.

Think about that music. How it echoes throughout your neighborhood. How soft and nice it is. And how sometimes you're not able to see the truck. And it gets louder, and louder, and louder...

Now take all that and think about it at night.

    Incredibly creepy.

Reminds me of "sweet tooth" from the twisted metal video games.
