Yeah, they can grow pretty big. When diving in Cozumel we often find crabs the size of tires. I think the biggest thing that has freaked me out though while diving was an octopus in Fiji that was larger then a volkswagen. It was curled up inside of a coral head and the blow hole was visible. It was about the size of a pickle jar opening.

They usually aren't that agressive. It was also daytime and they are nocturnal. We have seen them moving in daytime but, they tend to be the very small versions in Cozumel or Bonaire.

What? No Megladon? Come on. Imagine, if you will a Great White Shark the size of a school bus that fed in shallow (read beach) areas. Just might make you wet your wetsuit.
Nice to see fellow divers. I happened upon a Moray Eel in the Keys on a wreck dive. Reminded me of "The Deep", but without Jacqueline Bisset.

Ligers are beautiful, wouldn't want to cuddle up to one though.

LOL, I know what you mean about the Moray Eel. During the day in Belize off Ambergrise Caye we happned upon a swimming moray eel that was at least 14 feet long. We didn't think they even left their coral head during the day but, it was free swimming in about 35 feet of water.

I almost built a Japanese spider crab when I was planning to add a sea monster to my pirate theme several years ago. Figured it would be pretty easy: 2-inch PVC for the legs, foam body, maybe a couple of reindeer motors to wave some of the legs around. I decided to go with a giant octopus instead, but I have definitely kept the crab in the project files.
