Another little off ramp on my main thread here - just wondering if anyone one in the UK... or anywhere else actually... have put on haunts or parties or what ever, and they not .... been a real success?
i'll give you an example.
Last year, I went to town - well... for what most people over here do anyways. I bought tons of jelly window decs - the dripping blood type... hand prints etc - plastered them all over my front room window, and put a strobe light under the window, to light up the scene. On the outside of the window and on the front door, i bought a few rolls of the warning tape, ya know the sort or CAUTION! POLICE SCENE! tape.. but the real stuff.... no cheap Halloween props to give it a more real feel... and i put that all over the windows, door.... and i hung a sign outside that said something like Asylums menu - or something like that.. with some gory food items on it...
so, when the TOT knocked at the door, i had it swing open to nothing.. basically i hung a load of flattened bin bags on my wall in my vestibule to black it out and had skeletons, spiders, ghouls all handing down, ripped bits of bin liner etc... like an old school haunted house. As you walked through that to the door between my vestibule and my front room, i had a desk set up, with a creepy table cloth with spiders and webs etc on it, with a skull fogger (fog comes from the eyes) and loads of pumpin candles around it - and also behind that, had a lcd pc monitor set up, with a version of the singing heads (you know the kind... the ones used at disney land i think it is, they project them onto statues and busts to make it look like the stone is singing) and coverd the monitor up so the were just soem heads floating in the room.
i decorated all my fireplace like a sort of altar... and put all the candy on there.... had a smoke machine mask the floor and had wall scenes all over the walls.
the Idea was for the TOT's to knock at the door, come a few steps inside the "creepy Asylum" where i, dressed as a mad zombie doctor, would greet them with the candy.
now... i woudl love to have shown you some photos, but i was so upset that i did not take any. I had ONE Trick or treater ALLLL Night. I do live on a main road - but i had the outside parts set up for about 2 nights earlier to entice TOT's along... what a let down. I just took ti all down and got drunk
anyone else had a similar experience with a party or a haunt etc? Pictures of your efforts would be cool too. again, sorry i dont have any! I may have a short video somewhere i may be able to dig out

I do one every year, seeing as I'm the only person who bothers in my town to do a haunt. I get loads of people visiting, I'm known locally as the Halloween Lady (although I'm pretty sure it's more like crazy halloween lady) lol...I think people also think I'm a Witch too (is an atheist btw)

Ah yes the halloween failure of 2010, it sounds better on here than you described it to me, i wish i would have come down to see it now haha.
Like i said i had loads of TOT'ers but thats just the luck of living on an estate, won't have any this year in these apartments.

Dan, can you go to someone else's house and at least give out candy?

Oh and Craig, that sounds awful!! But it's not much different than my house. I decorate like mad and the most TOTers that I've ever gotten was six (in two groups). I decorate for the very few kids who do come to my house though. That one kid probably told all his friends about your house!

thats when you have a party so other can enjoy the decoration. i do the same and would buy the big candy bars. we would get about 20 or so kids which would seem like weeks in between. we also have parties which are the bigger hit.

My lighting was my biggest failure last year, I need to invest in some decent lights.

Decorating for a party as well as TOTers is a great idea...even if it's not an entire house-full of people!

Advertised all year (My haunted house is open all year long)$300.oo 1st place prize, about 25 contestants showed uyp. So I did it a second year, advertised it all year... then 3!!! people showed up!?? $300.oo and only 3 people thought it worthwhile to put forth any effort at all????
I still after all these years do not understand this?
That was "IT" for me! No more. I can always use $300.oo."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
