How do you handle them? Do you immediately investigate wielding your trusty tire iron, sniff the air and listen for further threat, or dive beneath the covers hoping their impenetrable force shield still works?

Depends on where it comes from and how loud. I use to grab my large knife I kept under my mattress but, with cats I've learnt I really don't need it. lol

I watch what my cat does too. The other night there was a weird noise coming down the road that had me frozen stiff. The cat froze too and that made it worse. Turned out to be some idiot flying down my street with a flat tire. Something neither of us had heard before so we couldn't identify it right away...LOL!

I have actually gone full operator on a noise that can only be described as paranormal. I heard a crash and then boot steps in the kitchen, I jump outta bed with my mag light and sub2k. Run down the steps yelling to whatever it was to "Get the ---- outta my house" to only find nothing there. I check all through the house and even walked the yard from signs of an intruder. Nothing, when everyone else finally woke up they see me crouched in the living room waiting and listening. Not one of my greatest moments, but I will be damned if someones in my house, ghost or not.

I blame all those violent video games I played as a kid lol
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside of us

I don't do anything. With three cats in the house, I can blame just about any noise on them.
I like the smell of pumpkin guts in the morning.

I love Halloween so much, but I'm a big baby! I hide under my blankets! I'm also still afraid something will grab my legs from under the bed!! I'm such a dork!

The flashlight gives away your position too.

The best way to deal with a strange noise in the night, is to make your own strange noise in the night. Like say the sound racking a shell in the shotgun makes.
