Just left home depot after talking to the lumber manager and he sold me TONS of wood for $4.00...WHHHATTT!! I Advise ANYONE to do this same thing. I explained to him we do a haunt each year and needed any kind of wood for very cheap--- he was about to cut up and throw out ALLL this wood because it was bowed a little...i came just in time he said!

    GOODLUCK ALL!!

P.S Please be aware that this would for very cheap is more then likely damaged in some way...it is not going to be perfect. --- just what us haunters DO want.

That happens regularly. They know and factor in a certain amount of waste on all the wood they get. My Home Depot (or maybe it was Lowe's?) used to have a rack out front where they would pile the bad wood and you could help yourself.

Screaming Demons--Thanks! I wish mine did this. They may put them out in the back of the building. After leaving I wanted to slap myself for paying full price for the last 7 years!!! LOL.

If they aren't willing to give you leftovers for free, most places have a "cull lumber" bin that all the odd bits end up from custom cuts of lumber. I got a TON of lumber for my haunt last year at my home depot from the cull bin. Each piece was $0.51. It was a steal!

The only downside is that the selection can be limited. So make many trips at different times of day to see whats available. Just check the area where they do custom lumber cuts... you'll find the cull lumber there.

Half the time the stuff on the shelves at the local HD is bowed. I've quit going to HD and now go to the Amish mill a few miles away...The cull bin is a good idea, i never knew they sold the bits from custom orders, thanks!
