well, on the way to another campground I pass the one that we go to for my 2nd haunt, the bigger of the 2, and got a good look at the site, actually got to walk it, seeing at no one was there, I am not sure what to do with it, it is on a corner, which I like but the corner is all trees and shrubbery, and not in a good way, very close together, and very thick, and the rest is not super wide, so the lab I wanted to do is out the window,we have a car and a truck, not sure if they will let me park the car over by the bathrooms, which is right across from the site I have, maybe in the fall, with the leaves off I can make use a bit more with the shrubbery, but it is very thick, and quite deep, sigh,,,,,,, was do depressed to look at it, wanted to do so much new this year, just not sure what I will have room for, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,I don';t know, am so distraught am not making sense, but I just want to cry, I look forward to this all year, (am actually angry with my hubby in my heart for waiting the 2 hours to call . I am at work, he is retired and can make the call right away in the morning, , 8am is the earliest, but waited until 10 for some unknown reason) just gotta do the best I can do I guess,,,,,,,,,,,,

No worries, you know this is the place for help with stuff like this. Vent away, it's what we're here for, to listen & help.
You can have things IN the bushes, coming out of the bushes, in the trees, hanging from the trees, etc.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

Can the bushes/trees be used as a back wall. This way you won't need to build a back wall. ONE issue solved.
Is there a way to maze them in/out of it. Even if there are no actors in that section. Plus you could add a line to a branch and just pull/shake it making them think something is in there. That alone will put them on edge and a great set-up to a startle prop or actor.
Did you get a pic of the site that might help get some creative ideas flowing....

I'm so sorry Bethene..
I can tell you are very disappointed. I'm sure that once you collect yourself you will come up with some great decorating ideas but I know how it is to have your heart set on something that is unattainable. I think i's normal to be disappointed in the hubby too being that he was in charge of getting the site so don't beat yourself up over those feelings. Just keep reminding yourself that he didn't wait to purposely piss you off and because of this, he will definitely remember to call first thing in the morning next year.
Hang in there..
It's my strange addiction..

I love the idea of using the shrubs as a wall to a maze if you can. Just the thought of walking in the dark with bushes with who knows what could be lurking ready to reach out and get you will have their little hearts beating faster. Even if no surprise is in the bushes. I do think those battery operated Haunted Hedge boxes might work though.
Have you considered working around the car/truck if it has to stay on the lot? I'm thinking figure out a way to erect a facade around the vehicle. Maybe with foam board you can assemble in panels or maybe with a painters cloth you paint ahead of time with scenery. If you have a flatbed truck use the bed to erect a tower inside it that you cover and incorporate into the whole scenery. In fact if you do have the flatbed you could do cool things inside that tower by adding lighting inside and maybe even create a lightweight ghost hanging and illuminated from inside the tower. The flatbed would be a great staging area for a lot of things that would behind the scenes and would accommodate a live person even.
I remember your earlier post about the reservations and am glad you were able to at least get a second choice there since you seemed to really enjoy the people there at Halloween time. Look at this as a challenge to come up with something unexpected that will really show off your creativity. Make the space your own this year and show them what you got. As someone else said we're all here to help make this a special year there.
BTW I'd love to see a photo of the space if you have one.

thanks for commiserating guys, I actually think the shrubs are too close together to go through, I actually tried to come in from the site side,an couldn't get through. and I might be able to put some things there, but it is REALLY thick, plus real close to the road, so it can't be a back drop, I have been going over and over things, trying to make it so can put things there, a picture is a great idea, if I get there, it might be later in the summer, but if I do I will post them, and revive this thread. I had thought of dealing with spiders in there, big spiders, maybe a victim or two, and some egg sacks, I just have to get spot lights in there. I really do need to get pics, I could use your input and the wonderful ideas you all have!!!!

if the bushes are next to a road I assume people are walking past them to get to your site????
I like the idea of rattling branches and it is so simple a rope with an actor near the area can do 2 jobs. How about a PIR with a vicious dog or animal track, maybe even tied to a wiper motor to move the bushes and trigger the sound at the same time.
Effective and low cost.....

Buy a big rubber snake or make one, and get an old broom handle or dowell rod. Hook the rod underneath the snakes head and thrust it out from the bushes at people. Maybe we can come up with a way to have some light weight props be able to pop over the bushes towards people for a startle scare. I just bought one of the new firecracker props at midwest haunters. It was only $25 and it can scare the crud out of somebody when you are looking right at it much less hidden in the deep dark woods.
EVERY DAY TO ME IS HALLOWEEN!
