I gotta ask because I'm having SO much trouble balancing what little free time I have...do you have hobbies other than Halloween and if so how much time do they take up, how do you manage your time so you can....do it all?

I work full time, own a home which takes time in running/keeping up, and I have a couple other hobbies which are time consuming when I'm "into" them: sewing & creative writing.

I swear...I hardly have time for ANY hobbies at all. Don't ask me how, I've only got the 1 full time job, I don't go to school or anything, and I don't have kids. But I swear...carving out time for ANY hobbies is hard! Between all the errands I have to squeeze in when I'm not working, keeping up the house & myself, and you know LIFE in general I don't feel like I have very much "quality time" left. Hobby time. Sewing/writing/Halloweening time. So by the time Halloween comes I'm always in a mad rush to finish Halloween things, and I always end up disappointed by what didn't get done.

Sometimes I think I must simply have too many hobbies, and I think...well, other people must JUST do Halloween. But no, that can't be it, not in every case anyway. So please shed some light for me...how do you juggle life & your hobbies?

    I hear you!

I'm a full time student, but am enjoying summer break currently. No job right now.

    - I practice my instument 4-6 hours day (important as this is what I do professionally).
    - We just moved and there is a TON to be done on the property. Always competes for time.
    - Our place is a mini-ranchette and the animals (horses, goats, indoor pets) require daily maintenance, of course. Manure cleaning, training, attention, and such.
    - Garden must be tended.
    - I also sculpt and study music theory and piano.

The bulk of my prop building takes place during the summer, as this is when I have the most time (i.e., no 16 credit course load on top of everything else). These days I do most of it at night when I'm not permitted to make loud noises
Or, I fit in small projects whenever I have a spare moment. Perhaps right before I go to bed. This year the haunt will be rather simple, though, as like I said...all this new house/property work leaves little spare time for building that hasn't been allotted to something else and a bit more crucial. I have one major prop planned and that's it aside from the usual stuff we already have (grave markers, fog, lights).

You can say one thing though...people like us are never bored.

I am a student but also looking for work and pining away to get my hobby room straightened up so I can work on stuff indoors. I am totally daydreaming about lounging in there and looking at all my stuff and building model kits and doing Halloween props indoors vs in the hot garage.

In between household management, school and looking for work, trying to sell my items worth anything, its a little draining.

But yeah, if I had only home management, I would be flipping back n forth between props and setting up the garage and model kit building.

I am disabled vet I can no longer work, and I am a full time single parent of a toddler. So I spend much of my time chasing after my 2 yr old lol.

I do alot of hikes, fishing, gardening, playgrounds, and enjoy detailing my blazer.

Boy does this hit close to home! The missus and I have a hard time balancing all of that. She loves gardening, and we built her 5 raised beds this spring. Regular upkeep on the house, as you are aware, takes up a big portion of time. We have two wonderful boys that require a lot of time and attention. All those required things, and yet we find time for the fun stuff. As I mentioned, her gardening. I do re-enactment pirating as well, so there are costumes to build and props to make for that. We never seem to have the time to do all we want for Halloween, either. You just have to be satisfied with what you can get done.

Apparently my new hobby is falling.

But seriously, I garden when I'm not tripping over my own feet, I'm a member of our fire dept. auxiliary (which lately is become a chore) & I sing the praises of Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers every chance I get!!

You can download 7 of their songs free here!

I have bit of more time now, now that I am done with school, excepting for studying for the medical coding exam that i have coming up in the moring. I am always busy trying to take care of my house and deal with my son while my husband works. I am in the middle of looking for a job. Meanwhile i am book freak while being on computer and cross-stiching. it dont always mean i have time for them but i try to make time for everything i do. Or at least tries to.

Between home improvement projects, running the kids all over town and other miscellaneous hobbies, I don't reserve much time for Halloween prop making either.
What I do is just get a prop project started and work on it a little at a time. It can take me months to finish a prop because it gets worked on little by little. I'll do what I can with what time I have and then figure out what my next step will be before I stop---even if it's just drilling a few holes or painting something--when I have some spare moments I go do that step. Then move on to the next one.
