Hi everyone, I'm new to this sight and absolutely loving it! I'm a LOR user and love lighting up Christmas. I also do Halloween and recently found out about this forum and can't wait for Halloween, although I'm not doing a display this year. Instead I'm helping in a much bigger haunt. My daughter and her high school friends do a haunt each year and this will be their last year, seniors going to college next year. So they are going bigger and better. They have secured the use of a semi-old church that's slated to be destroyed. The church is rectangular and white, holds a congregation of about 100-150 I think. It's on a one acre lot with huge old trees near center of a small town.
The possibilities and themes are many and I'm looking for thoughts and ideas that I can share with the group. Has anyone had an opportunity like this before? I'm curious what experiences did you run into, thinking about church goers not being excited about the idea. Maybe some do's and don'ts?
One idea I have is this, get the names of the people in line ahead of time and as they go through the haunt they'll come across the Grim Reaper printing out funeral bulletins with their name on it or on a flat panel TV on the wall.

    Welcome, Mr. LED!

I would just about kill for the opportunity to set up a haunt in an old church. Most of my haunts have a vaguely religious bent to them, and I'm constantly scouting for old church furniture to use as props. I'm especially partial to creating haunted funerals and weddings, either of which would be ideal in such a venue.

Greetings from a fellow Wisconsinite! A haunted church! Great idea! It's already creepy without even doing anything!! (contemplating a drive out to Oregon to see the haunt!)

If there's a basement and it accessible how could you resist doing an underworld theme???
When storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.

I thought I'd update the latest news on this. The church haunt has been cancelled, due to vandalism to the buildings and the township. So now the new permanent home for the haunt is a large barn and another out building on a retail produce farm.

I got to meet with the guys in charge today. The first building will be circus clown themed. The barn's upper level will be a 1920's insane assylum gone bad. The farm where this is at will have two corn mazes as well.

For me, they want to have some animated lighting with music at the entrance. May also do a talking face on the first building for announcements. They will be running all weekends in October. I need to make more RGBW highpowered led floods

My daughter came up with an idea for a costume for one of the actors. So I'm building a breastplate that will have an external heart/powersource similar to Ironman with a Turn of the Century look.

This is my daughter's self portrait of her own costume that she wants to put together.
