Thread: Using the Media

I mentioned this on another string, but thought it might be of value as it's own post. For those of you who would like to have more kids come through your haunt, try taking some pictures and sending them to your local newspaper or TV stations about the first week of October. These media outlets are always looking for interesting local color stories to fill in gaps in their coverage or paper, and doing a story with pictures about an interesting Halloween display is an easy way for them to do that.

I sent some pictures of my display to the local paper last year, and they sent a reporter and photographer out to my house twice, first to interview my wife then again to interview me. They gave us a column above the fold on the front page, plus pictures and a half page story inside the paper. When Halloween came, we had reporters from other media outlets at our house, we had lots of tot's, and people from well outside the area who had seen the article coming to check out the house.

The best part was after they took the kids home, a lot of adults came over from their parties to talk about the display, and get some ideas for doing similar things at their houses this year.

Been on tv 3 times in the last 2 years(CTV and ACHANNEL), and a newspaper (that I know off). Will be again this year, that's a promise!
Loved it.

I won from Achannel 1000$ and we didn't knew anything about it, until they called and told us we won.

had a few more drive-by's because of it.

Wow! I wish we had won $1,000, but the newspaper clippings were pretty nice too.

Funny part in all this, we had no intention of being on tv or newspaper, it was all the people in the neighborhood that kept telling us
to email the media about it. After 2 years, we broke down and email a few sites, just for fun and was never expecting much.
After a week, we started to get calls and such.
