Posted this on my blog but thought it would be fun to share here as well. Well here is a short video of the auction we went to. I only filmed for about a minute because I don't think they liked us filming much. We found out about the auction too late and most of the amazing stuff was already gone, like the demons in the beginning of the video. The place was strange. The entire interior was completely covered wall to wall in bare particle board(even the ceilings). All the walls had taxidermied animals gracing them. Even a giant bee's nest hung just below the autioneer.

It is amazing what people will buy. Some stuff was in complete disarray, rotten, burn from fire, rusted out, and/or just plain beat up, but still got bought by people in the crowd. I guess what they say is true about another man's trash.

We did attempt to win some things but we didn't really have a chance. There was a man their whom (heard it from members of the crowd) owned a store of some type and he outbid everyone. He bought almost the entire collection save a few items. My friends wife left with about three ground breakers and a couple other odds and ends but she was there from the start.

We were mainly interested in a 55 gallon tote full of cotton batting and moss and lichen. We're making some more headstones this year and the mosses would have come in handy. Unfortunately, the way the auction went is they would announce opening bids on 6-8 totes and start bidding at $25.00. Bids got up to $60.00 to $75.00 and the winner had his choice of one tote or all of the totes combined (for the winning bid times the amount of totes that were up for auction at that time). So, say the winning bid was $50.00 and there were five totes up, then $250.00 would buy the whole lot.

If the winner did not want to buy the other totes then the workers in the crowd would sweeten the deal by lowering the cost of each tote by five dollars or more till the winner accepted. The high roller guy in the crowd new this and would out bid everyone then barter down the price for the entire lot. That's how we lost the tote of moss.

Still it was creepy fun. They even had a Mexican food truck outside serving Mexican/American food. But what I wouldn't give to had an opportunity to bid on those amazing demon props. They were the coolest things there.

The high roller guy had his own "PODS" storage unit there. We didn't have a chance, lol.

That is amazing! I've never seen an auction of just specifically Halloween decor/props. Sounds like you had fun - sorry you didn't win those demons.
