Ok well here in the uk, halloween is not quite as popular.

Last year decided after the success of the previous years party, to put on a better show.

Built a flying crank ghost, a monster in a box, and some "spooky" fencing, around some graves. Worked really well, and got a lot of very positive reviews.

Will post some photos..in a moment.

Ok so photos.... we have a couple shots of the whole front area...

Built some pillars, although the cracked / marble effect (done with a few different colours of grey, and some crackle glaze), doest show on photos at all.

The pillars held a pumpkin each as well as supported the archway ... worked well as an entrance..

Up the left was the grave yard.. then with the flying crank ghost visible in the front window, as you approached the front door the monster in box / crate would activate.

Was my first real year of trying stuff. The year before just had a party and made the flying crank ghost. As you can see didnt use a wiper motor just a standard tiny electric motor, and used a planatary gear box to get the torque needed. Was a lot cheaper than a wiper moter here. Then used a pulse width modulation to control the speed of the moter. That way could run it at full volatge but slow it down if needed. It was run at 9v but pulse modulated down to about the speed of 5v, but kept the torque. Was also a great way to fine tune the speed of the crank.

The monster in a crate ... sorry never took many photos of it being built

Nice! Looks great for a first try. Hope you inspire more people to celebrate Halloween in the UK!

This year 2011 - going to go for a UFO theme... and maybe push the boat out a bit.

Just a shame that basic construction materials cost so much more over here.
Just need to find a few decent alien bodies for the couple of props...

Here though at most you get 2 nights. And manly 1. Its simply not socially accepted to have a haunt or decorations up for any longer than the night its self, or maybe the night before.

Good for you for going for it!! How did you light the word "purgatory" on your arch? That looked sweet!
