Saw this little pico projector with a 90 degree hinged projector that works with an iPod and/or iPhone (maybe the iPad2 also? and a number of other devices), called Cinemin Swivel Projector by Wowwee. I think this is the same company that manufacturers those animated stuffed animals, like the life-like chimpanzee, and the musical Paper Jamz, guitars. It has 480 x 320, HVGA resolution, in a compact space. Might be something that would work great for someone with limited space restrictions for equipment. Actually it's a nice little take-along size for personal use everyday.
It uses DLP LED technology by Texas Instruments and they advertise crystal clear, 1000:1 ratio high contrast with vivid color. Has a switch for mirroring of the image. Here's a link to the product over at Brookstone.com. There's a video of it in use and you can link to the Product Manual on the website. The video talks about all the devices it can be connected to. It uses something that looks like a rechargeable camera battery and has an A/C and D/C adapter.
Here's Wowwee's offiicial site for it: Cinemin Swivel
and here's their support area for a list of products it works with (I see the original iPad is listed).
BTW if you do a search for Pico Projectors you will find a number of other products out there similar to the Cinemin that offer a higher brightness and contrast ratio and came out after the Cinemin, so shop around for the best deal for you (in fact the Cinemin is listed on Amazon.com new for $149). Here's a review that CNet did comparing the Cinemin (date of review unavailable).
I had no idea that such small projectors were available.
