When tornadic storms die, and bread-oven heat settles in over Oklahoma in June, it sets up shop and doesn't waver from the upper 90s until mid-September.

That is why the week after Memorial Day, I retreat into my house, close the shades, rank the AC and begin planning for Halloween, The Funeral of Summer.

Kids are out of school, bugs and spiders are everywhere, weeds and grass begin choking every inch of ground, the sun blinds and leads to squinting headaches, nights smell of hot asphalt and humidity, sweat is constant and I sit in the shadows wishing death on all of it...
    ...listening to Halloween radio.

So reach for the sky, milkweed and dandelion. Laugh and play, little children. Shine all you want, Solaris - soon, you'll plummet to the southern sky.
    Shadows will invade your kingdom,
weeds shall wither and insects will flee.
Youth shall be imprisoned once again.
    And I?
I shall sit in the glow of candle-lit grinning faces, sipping cider and chuckling in the chilled evening air.

I thought I would hate the heat here in Florida, but we're usually cooler than most of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states during the summer. When it's in the high 90s in VA, PA, etc., it'll be in the high 80s down here. Our problem is it gets warmer sooner, and stays warmer longer than the north, but after living in MD for 12 years, it's overall cooler down here.

I do a lot of work in my garage, which is not air conditioned, but I've found a good fan will keep me more than cool even on the hottest days.

I dont think it has even hit 80 yet here in the Seattle area. Usually this time of year I am in shorts and flip flops.

It's the middle of June and we have been baking in 95-100 degree weather here in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, and it's not going to let up any time soon.

Personally, I don't mind the heat, living in Texas all my life has me used to it. I take advantage of the clear skies and HOT weather when getting ready for Halloween after July 4th (when I get in full Halloween mode). But when September rolls around, I am ready for the Heat to go away! That is where the disadvantage of Texas weather takes place. I have seen October have it's hot days, warm day's, PERFECT days. But what is worse to me then the Temp and is the one thing that has all of us Haunters on edge... RAIN!

I'll take the heat over rain and day

I can confirm Ihauntu's post, there is little opportunity to work outdoors from November thru April for the most part. We do have to plan indoor projects and reserve certain ones for Spring. We have been working out of the garage for the last few weeks, but freakishly strong winds and now rain have stopped some outdoor projects.

No pre-summer here. We've hit the 100's. It's summer. It makes staying out in the garage a little less fun... but we're doing prop building in shorter time bursts now, so I guess it's not too bad.
