Thread: So mad about losing our Halloween campsite

For the past 3 years we have used the same spot. We built everything to fit into that campsite. I asked about when I could reserve it on Monday she told us not until 6 months to the day exactly. So I went on today to make sure tomorrow was 6 months. To my surprise they had already allowed people to reserve sites and it is still a day out of the six month period. And to top it off the site we always get is one of the reserved ones.

I am really upset about this. I had being lied too! My guess is that the woman had someone who wanted the site and she made sure they got it. It is by far the best display site at the campground. We have put hours and hours not to mention loads of money to put on this show there year after year. I feel like we were taken for granted and not appreciated at all.

There are 3 sites that I know for the last 5 years they have kept people from reserving in case a certain group of people want to come decorate. I can't understand why if they can do it for some they couldnt do it for us. We had group after group standing outside our site looking things and asking questions the entire weekend day and night. Even the staff came by and said we make coming to see the sites worthwhile.

But in the end we got screwed. I am really saddened by it. I don't even know that I want to decorate there this year. Part of me says let them do it without us and see what they are missing

That really sucks, and I think I would be very upset too....... But I hope part of you says go ahead and set up and blow the rest of the displays away!

You must be the person I found last night with the pirate theme on the trailer? I have to wonder where you live that you can still be camping during Halloween?

I had this very same thing happen to us as well. I was told to call 6 months to the day, which I did, to find out all the sites were gone. Apparently they let people call a few days earlier and reserve the sites for the whole week and then just cancel the first few days and get the sites. I called the dnr and chewed them out. Anytime you deal with a state park unfortunately you have to put up with this kind of crap. I ended up telling them to get %#^@&, and went to another camp ground owned by some very nice people and had a way better time than I ever did at the state run campground. Really your only options are to go someplace else or stay there and make the best of it.

Nope no pirate theme trailer. I have some pics of campouts on here. I live in Ohio but as long as it is not raining it is usually warm here for Halloween. It's my favorite outing of the camping season!

I say screw them and take your business elsewhere for Halloween. BUT I might camp there a few times over the summer and if staff inquires about your display gladly tell them that your site was taken so you are going to be at "Park 123" and for them to stop by and say hello.
They'll get the message!

I wish i could be fine with the whole thing but I just can't. I totally feel like I was lied too. I know I cant change what they let happen but I did complain to the main office at the state via email this evening. And the woman that works for the park and told me I could make the reservation yet is on my facebook so I put the state park she works at on blast and told everyone that she lied to me and cost me my reservation. I also made known I was complaining to the state about being lied too. I know it will not change anything but I do want her to wonder what I'm going to say when she sees me out there.

I think tomorrow I will go out and look at other sites although none of the remaining ones can contain all of our stuff. I am seriously considering not decorating at all, the only problem is I love it so darn much!! We were talking about not doing a normal graveyard this year and changing things up so maybe that what we'll do. Just change it to a smaller Hansel & Gretel display . I just dont know yet. I think maybe I'm still just too upset with them to think straight.

KPRIMM~Sorry you've had the same issue. It's just not right. If I knew people could be shady and cheat the system and get away with it I would've joined in to get my site. It's bull!!

Yea that's pretty lame. I think you should still decorate but go elsewhere. Sounds like you have one of the best displays. So just keep em wanting more. They'll miss you trust me.

Any way to ask the people that got your site if they'd be willing to let you bribe them - maybe give them some props or a small amount of money? Begging? Something? That is horrible, and I'm sorry.
