Have you ever had to start a second time from scratch, or nearly from scratch? Perhaps there was a disaster that destroyed your collection, or you had to sell out for some reason or another. Did the experience reinvigorate you, or were so disheartened from the loss of your original items that it just wasn't the same?
I've accumulated so many props, costumes, and mannequins that my home is starting to resemble a studio's stockroom. This is not a good thing. Part of me is sorely tempted to sell off the bulk of my collection and, in effect, "start over" - holding onto only the pieces I absolutely, positively know I'll use this year, and perhaps selling even those after the holiday.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions, spare change?

I am at the point in my life where what I have is good and I have the space to store everything. I may tweek along the way and add more but I would never start over. To much time and expense to do that plus I really love what I have accomplished to let go of anything. Of course if the things that I do have got destroyed then yes I would start over......I would have no choice.

I wouldn't start over....even if everything was destroyed....I'd just spend my time and money on my other hobbies. As it is, this year should be my last big year of building and accumulating. I'm really hoping to get to the point where I just build one or two things a year and only think about Halloween in September and October.

Do what I do and don't organize it... leave it mingled with all the other other junk in the garage. THEN try to find everything in October.

I've started from scratch twice, both times following long distace moves. Think transoceanic here, yu don't take animtronics with you. And it was worth it for the kids and neighbors' sake. Let's face it, having a "Halloween Guy" in the neighborhood is a real treat. But, at this point in my life (59 in a few days), there's just no way I'd do it again.

Haven't fully started over, but when my husband and I moved from VA to CA; we gave away all our homemade tombstones (around 15). And when I moved from my sisters in MD to MS I gave her half of all my decorations. (cemetary gate, tombstones, sign, window decor, and faux boards for the windows and some odd and end decorations.) I'm kind of excited about getting to make new things for this year. Just wishing I had more of a disposable income to go crazy with.

I haven't had to start over from scratch, thankfully. However, last year got a major overhaul and this year will be an even bigger one. We totally changed directions for our haunt two years ago, so I've been working to that end and decided to space it out over a couple years. I didn't want to get burnt out. It has been invigorating. My family and I have found a new sense of joy in Halloween that has been missing in years past. Would I want to start over? No, probably not. Sometimes, it is well worth it, though.

I reached critical mass and have ZERO space for storing, so, if I do get something, I will need to sell off some stuff (actually, I think I will do it again this year(did last year, sold 5 huge boxes of halloween over stock I add, nothing scary much).
Also, for starting something from zero, when my almost completed tunnel got smashed and flipped by mother Nature, we add the remove all the props and lights in it, and de-assemble it and re-assemble it 3 times already in the last 2 years (each time takes 4-5 hours of work...)

I don't think you should start over or sell any of your props unless you really don't like them. You should just keep building and getting more and more props.
