Hey everyone. I have been struggling to choose a direction for my yard this year. I had planned to add more zombie aspects to my graveyard. However I just haven't been feeling that yet. Everyone around here wants me to go back to pirates and build another pirate ship. All the kids and parents haven't gotten over me not doing pirates the past couple of years. The pirate theme was by far the most popular. I had a great time with the pirate theme and wouldn't mind doing it again. So whats the dilemma? Building a pirate ship is no small matter if I build another ship I will be committing to pirates this year and next. So far I am not super excited about anything. It isn't like me not to already know exactly what I am going to do. Pirates worry me a bit - topping my last pirate work will not be easy.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

Go to Blockbuster/netflix and rent "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island"
It should give you some visuals for merging zombies, graveyards and pirates into a cohesive haunt. ENJOY.

Great idea! Instead of the typical skeleton pirates, have a bunch of zombie monster type pirates. Instead of building a ship, how about a cave scene with the zombie pirates burying their treasure and disposing of their victims. Dead men may tell no tales...but sometimes they don't stay dead.

    Love Eyegore's idea!

There is a great blog by Dave Lowe - he creates props that always reminded me of the Scooby Doo stuff too - he's a genius and lots of his stuff looks like it would possible to replicate (he's done all the hard work ) His skeleton figures tend to go more to the cartoony side (which is awesome!) and they would be just a bit more effort to turn them into skeleton pirates.

One more vote for Eyegore's idea. I've watched the Scooby-Doo and Zombie Island a couple of times with my girls and there are a lot of ideas.

Plus, can you ever really go wrong with Scooby-Doo?

You guys (and gals) are hilarious!

It doesn't have to be cartoony, but as a reference...that movie should definitely help you out.
So break out the popcorn and enjoy! he he.

I think the zombie pirates would be a great theme and as for redoing a ship.... I would go for the idea stated earlier a cave or even a swamp hide out theme could tie in a voodoo priestess along with fog and snakes chanting maybe even a swamp plantation type scene.
