I was wondering how many people do different themes every year. Or maybe the same or similar. I was just wondering, because either you have to find a way to reuse stuff year to year for different themes or try to keep things from getting stale.
Either way, I was wondering what everyone does from year to year.
I'm going with similar themes since I don't have a lot of money (or storage). I also just love to many different decorations to just focus on one theme.

I usually keep the same theme for maybe 2 years, then switch to another. It was a cemetery first, then a voodoo theme, followed by a twisted circus. I'm still not sure about this upcoming Halloween, although I'm thinking of doing a dark harvest, with evil scarecrows and skull-faced pumpkins.

I do the same thing every year but add or retire some things. I do a basic graveyard, but sometimes it has a ghost, or it might have a few movie monsters, or be invaded by spiders...

We do a theme until there's nothing I want to add, or I grow bored with it. Could be one year, could be 10. Currently on year 2 of the current one, and I'm betting it'll be back for a third.

Like most, I use the cemetery theme, add a little here; rearrange something there. Since a lot of my stuff is diy I have a hard time parting with it.

No real theme here...I just add props every year and expand where I can put them.
However I know a guy that built a bigass/kickass pirate ship and threw it away the day after Halloween..no room to store it.

I change it up every other year to keep the element of surprise. I do reuse a lot of my props and have almost every prop I've bought or made since 1990. Kinda a Halloween hoarder to some... Lol!
I never utilize all my props at once as there is just way toooooo much! It would look very cluttered and be an overkill if I did try to use everything during a single season. My themes are basically a cemetary with various backyard, side yard & porch walkthru themes. It is truly whatever I can come up with that year or if I have the help and supporting haunt crew.
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

Currently in year three of a plan of rotating three themes. I figure that once the fourth year comes around, the kids won't remember year 1's theme so it'll seem new. Plus, I'll freshen it up and move things around a bit. The three themes picked all somewhat relate to each other so the props can morph into the next year's theme. All three themes have one thing in common: Post-apocalyptic time frame. So, the peripheral decor generally stays the same. Here's the three themes:
Year One: Vampyr Reign
Year Two: Zombie Apocalypse
Year Three: Force of Darkness
This does have drawbacks of it taking more money and time. Figured I'd have the motivation for hard pushes these first three years and then the following years will be more laid back and just playtime with small tweaks and changes with perhaps a big project mixed in once and awhile.
