I am doing a haunted house for the 2nd time but REALLY stepping it up. Last year there was a line and they had nothing to look at or do. Any ideas? Btw, the theme is swamp.

If you can by any chance have one or two actors just walk around. I'v noticed at times they really scare the ladies.

Create a line game called "Face Your Fears"This is just simple tasks such as touch a sanke or rat. If they complete the task give them a little prize or move them to a vip line. The trick to this is pick the ones you know won't do it. The sheer shock and reaction from the crowd is always a pleasure.
halloween is a super cool holiday.

Have a Peppers Ghost window. This one is really good. It will keep them entertained for a while:

Goodplace for a cemetery. Waiting in line gives them time to read the epitaphs.
RockPlayson's idea of an in-line game is good. You could even have sort of a tarot thing, with pick a card. Make up completely stupid predictions based on one card. Use a real deck if you can. Tarot-knowledgable with be disgusted, but so what?
You could have a ghostly conductor lead the crowd in Halloween Carols. Or, make a video of some of your friends all costumed up singing the scarols, and play it. If you know some geeks, have a big screen with Follow the Bouncing Skull.
If you have actors, they can always take a break out front. Everybody knows it's a haunt, so I don't think you lose a real surprise factor. It's like going to a play and talking to the cast ahead of time.

Put some props out along the line area that look static but move. Don't put motion sensors on them, use a manual remote to activate them just when everyone starts looking really bored.

Hand out "death certificates" to fill out... just in case they don't make it!
