Hello everyone! So, DH and I might be looking at a Hearse that is for sale in our area. It is a 1977 Cadillac painted with flames, has red neon lights, a casket, casket rollers and an animated body bagThey are asking 1200 for it-it has 66k miles on it. For those of you with experience with them or who own one, any advice on purchasing it? What kind of things should we look for? How do you incorporate it in your haunt? Do you plate and insure it? Drive it all of october? Any advice would be helpful!!! Thanks so much! We were just thinking of using it on our party night and taking people for rides that night and Halloween :

I know there are several hearse owners around here somewhere...
This sounds so cool! I don't have the space for it (small house in the burbs) but I sometimes check out hearses for sale just because...
Got any pics?

All the people I've known who own hearses drive them year round, but not as their sole vehicle; gas prices and parking space prevents that. I also have some friends in Nevada who have several and they've been used for film and tv now and then.
I'd recommend you see if there is a hearse club in your area because you could get advice from people who have the experience personally.

Also, remember that modern hearses are usually just the sedan model itself, converted. The engine is not rare, not hard to find parts for. I've seen mechanics try to rip people off on that note.
On the subject of hearses, my favorite being the 38 Packard Hearse ~le sigh~, there's this nifty video.

That is an amazing price. I have a 1970 cadillac superior sideloader. One bit of information youll need later on is if its m&m or superior. a need to know when searching for glass. Over all theyre beasts. I love my hearse.

Opening-closing, the frame could be bowing= problems ahead.
due to the custom nature of such autos sometimes the electricals are hard to find to fix them because they can be put in various locations. Maybe having such a unique car means you might need to be able to work on it yourself?
These previous statements came to me from a hearse and limo owner with much experience in auto mechanics& electricals.
My 57 Caddy hearse just sat there and rusted but then it had a pretty good head-start on this before it came to me.
There are still some pictures of it on our web site: hauntedravensgrin.com"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

I drive my 1993 like a hot rod, all year except for the snow.
Look for rust under the car, check the gas tank for leaks, brake lines, door hinge in rear, glass, oil leaks.....thats covers most problems people have with them.
Get it an enjoy, they are so much fun to have

Jealous! I want a hearse, but money, storage space and the missus all prevent it.
