Why is it that you love Halloween?
Was it due to your parents and family tradition? Or was it from monster movies? Or friends at school?
What was it that made you such a nut for the holiday?

I really don't have a specific reason. I do think it's pretty sad that with my birthday being one week after, I NEVER had a Halloween party. Or really any b-day party at all...

Loved TOTing, loved costumes, loved the running around at night "scaring" the neighbors.
The hubby and I both liked Halloween growing up and were sad to outgrow it, and when we were planning on getting married, he jokingly said "Let's do it on Halloween!" and I think it took me about 2 seconds and told him absolutely! That's the point that both of us got back into it, and then I discovered this forum and realized the potential fun and started throwing my OWN parties and it's been a huge part of our lives ever since.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

I don't know!
I saw the question and started thinking about it and I just have no answer.
Hmmm...Wow...Interesting
I just always have!
I love the weather (well, more the weather in Mich. where I grew up, that is what stirs in me when I think of Halloween), the breeze rustling the leaves, the indian summer days (I hate the heat, it was too hot in FL TODAY for my taste! ALL 70's ALL the Time! is what I want! and I don't mean Music!), the colors, the smells, the decorations, but most of all the unlimited opportunities for unbridled creativity!

Well, for me, it is multi-faceted. Why I love Halloween in general....love horror films, the iconography of it, the chance to buy horror merch more freely from normal sources (which I would buy anyway year round) seeing other folks decorating around town and the general atmosphere and ambiance and increased spooky offerings from many sources.
Why I love haunted/Halloween attractions and dark rides, etc: the kind of 'safe fear' thing people talk about, admiring the effects and lighting design and small details, again, ambiance...being able to be in the horror themed environment and enjoy such
Why I am a home haunter: to kind of be able to build and control and plan details i.e. as you would for a theme park setting on my own territory and create something I would want to see as an outsider, to surprise and impress the guests, etc.

Being a huge horror movie fanatic, loved Halloween since I was young. The time of the year also, Fall is so beautiful here. Being a big guy, I am not scared of much, and I love scaring others too! (L). Only time of the year being and making your house scary is cool! The candy don't help too! (L)

The Universal Monsters as a kid mostly. Collecting masks, toys, comics, all horror related stuff back then set it in motion. My parents would take me to the studios as a kid and I got to see movie sets and stuff up close, all that had me interested in props and special effects. Halloween seemed like a time when EVERYONE was paying more attention to all that, so it was my natural favorite time of year.

Gosh.... It was my Mother who made halloween outfits to rent out and always made Spookyone and Mine and hosted halloween party for the Baton Corp. to raise money for outfit to twirl our baton with. My Dad, with fasticaition on whats on TV that night which would be between 1am to 3 am. (remember, we only had 3 channels and no cable). If it wasnt on TV it would be the scary movies that my mom would rented for Dad to watch. On top of that I was always in this wondeous state of how they did their make-up and make the monsters comes alive. I love the Fall Season and the smell of the golden and burnt orange color leaves flowing in the air. The Candies are the bonus to get during TOT. I mean I have alots of reason and memories to go with it.

You all know when you love something(I my case Halloween) you can't keep your mind of it, you toss, you turn and can't sleep, you don't want to do much else, you dream of it, constantly reminded of it everywhere you go! You protect it! You even make excuses for it! Some may even keep financial secrets from loved ones.. So yes this is everything in a whole for me! I bleed the black and orange spirit of Halloween through my veins! The pumpkins, skeletons, the hair raising spooks of fear, the chants of creepy children whispering in the darkness and the candy of course!
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

Almost everything the rest of you have said. The personal Halloween history of fun and familys all doing the same sort of thing.
The technical side of even making the simplest items operate well enough to frighten somebody! YES!
The extreme freedom of expression, artisticaly not found anywhere else this side of a real asylum art class!
And of course much of the fun is actually somewhat evil fun. We really are not supposed to go around intentionally scaring people , now are we? Not nice. Not polite... but it sure is fun!
Maybe in a few ways it's all just an ego-feed situation= I scared you , so = I must be smarter than you!
You screamed like a baby so you must be weak and scared as a small , small, child ..which makes ME seem really smart, tough and willing to do almost anything to effect this agenda of mine.
WARNING! This can be very addictive! (EGO-Boost?)
Sometime this year, 2011, I will be seeing the 9,000th night of me being OPEN here at The Ravens Grin Inn-Mount Carroll, Ill."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
