Does your city or county allow the use of fog machines? Last year I had to call up the fire marshal and he came out to inspect my haunt and gave me approval for the use of fog machines. He approved of it but made me put up a sign saying "fog machines in use, people with breathing problems beware". I also had to call 911 and notify them that I was using fog machines and that I got approval and that my house wasnt on fire.
Funny thing is on halloween the fire marshall brought his son to my house for trick or treating LOL

Seriously.....I was thinking of moving to Mt. Lake Terrace - Maybe I won't now. LOL
You know you have a successful haunt when the ADULT visitors pee their pants.

The last few years it's been so windy that using a fog machine that wasn't under some sort of cover has been kinda pointless.
I was under the impression that you only needed to get that sort of permission, fire marshall approval anyway, if you were running a for-profit haunt. But I guess every jurisdiction is different.
Probably not a bad idea to post that you're using fog machines in case anyone does have breathing issues, but like I said, it's been too windy for most fog machines here to be effective.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

Front yard, garge, 2 driveways, creek, and a hill, going to do the backyard this year. I read somewhere about a haunt getting thier fog machines shut down so I called to be sure. So he came out checked out my haunt for safety hazards etc and gave me approval. He was a pretty nice guy and gave me two thumbs up for what I am doing in the community w/ my haunt.

I had just moved several streets over from my old house in Watertown, NY 3-4 years ago.....never had any problems.....until I was running my fogger about 4 PM....I kept hearing sirens...my neighbor came over, asked me my name, and said the police band reported my house was on fire....soon I was surrounded by fire trucks, and the Fire department captain came over, wanted to know what was on fire - told me that a motorist thought my house was on fire and called it in...I just laughed....

The fog machine can KILL! –

Someone with lung problems and they can be mere children.
A death two years ago in St. Louis was in court with parents wanting milions to pay the hospital bill for their daughter for the year and a half that she was unconscious before she passed away.
Asthma is much more common than you may want to believe.
Court is still out as far as I know. The little girl was also very allergic to many common everyday substances. The fog juice was claimed to be sugar and water just like the major theme parks use.
Numerous huge warning signs were all over the haunt and on the tickets.
The parents knew she had at least most of the problems before they entered the haunt.
If the fog juice doesn't kill someone with astma, it can knock them to the floor in a semi-conscious condition..anybody here want to see this happening in your place? I sure don't.
The glycol based fog juice never used to bother me but a few years ago it suddenly began making the back of my throat so dry that I had alot of trouble merely speaking so I quit using it here. When I used to have it near a certain display indoors I had an open window with a fan to blow it outdoors directly above the machine and display.
Now should we mention strobe lights?
Epilleptic siezures can be set off by them . When someone with these types of seizures pass out they usually fall like a tree just cut off at it's base versus knees buckling, so face, teeth hit with much more force, causing potentually much more facial and oral damage.
Dry Ice? It can also kill if you are below it with nothing else to breathe, as in a confined space, like under a built-up graveyard display. This happened for a Church sponsered haunt, this situation created an actual corpse (that everyone knew) in the phoney graveyard.
One more caution. For quite a few Halloweens one to three people each season would accidently hang themselves as they pretended to be the hanging man.
Sorry to ruin anyone's fun by passing on such information, but none of this is fiction."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
