My son's daycare has a fall festival every year with a haunted house. Last year the person putting it together really dropped the ball and they asked us if they could help. We scrambled, pulled out a bunch of our stuff, told them how to set up it etc. This was 2 days before the event. however, we heard comments from lots of kids that it was the best one ever.

This year, I think we may be handling the whole thing. They would give us a class room to create it in. It's a small area and we have some ideas. But would love to hear other ones.

It's early and I also thought it would get others thinkng about Halloween in general . Any good ideas for elements to add?

They usually let in about 5 or 6 people at a time.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Daycare age, I'm thinking a laboratory. The ole classics of grape eyeballs, spaghetti brains and the like come to mind.

Homemade rootbeer in a cauldron is always fun...

My school holds a fund raiser the Friday before Halloween each year. I offered to set up an age appropriate haunt, but the principal said no. They were afraid of offending too many people. I was a little ticked off, but now I can concentrate on my own haunt.

Kids probably like atmosphere more than anything. Lots of fog and/or dry ice bubbling cauldrons, black lights, some strobe lights, perhaps a dark pirate cave???

I would recommend against strobes at that age. Kids may not have been diagnosed with epilepsy yet.

Last year we had huge 7ft skeleton plants we made, very simple but looked cool. We lent one to them last year and it scared a couple of kids but most LOVED it. We were thinking of making something like that again but make it more walkabout like. Have some big plastic bugs the kids to throw at it to feed it.

Yea, we let them use a couple of stobes last year but, they were really slow and tucked in corners more so a little effect. I would hate for some little one to have a seizure.

I love that they do have a haunted house tho. I know most won't anymore.

We used a plastic skull, PVC, hands using dowels and bailing wire. Used creepy cloth, leaves etc and it was standing in a large pot. We had 3 of them. The hands were posable and really strong to hold things. It was a quick build. There is a shot of one in my profile. Not the best shot but you can get the idea.

    I concur with Nowhining!

Try to keep a moderate balance between your scare factor. You can spook the kids at first but then transition to a more friendly area, then BAM! Scare them again, then again transition them into a toddler friendly area and so.. This will give them a great spook followed with a silly heartpounding laugh of relief!
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..
