Well as many of you know with my regular complaints of my extreme windy weather here in the Inland Empire, CA. I have a small thing to share with ya! Take a look at what the winds made of my 7.5ft pillars...

I store these outside as they are too big and don't fit inside my garage. I was also waiting for the weather to be good enough to repair and coat with some durable texture. This is why I could not open up my back yard walk thru last season.. I hate the winds here! They do so much damage... We had a sustained wind of 65mph and a measured gust of 95mph in this month of January! Talk about crazy!

I will not let this get me down or detour me as I am driven! To do bigger and better things(maybe a little heavier too! lol!) for this next upcoming season! Well just wanted to share a lil of my recent grief with my fellow HF family! May you never see winds like these!

Hmm. If the wind is the worst of your problems then it can't be that bad. If you saw my video I recorded just previous to the Halloween season, you'd see you don't have it that bad. But I can appreciate that the winds are difficult to deal with.

Well, here in Ottawa, in October, similar winds, then add snow and ice rain... Sucks big time!

This damage was just a leaf in an acre sized lot of an example. My winds damaged my entire haunt set-up days before this last Halloween..

I completely lost four 4x7.5ft walls/partitions, about 16 pcs of partitions were blown down and had many props broken or damaged including these once repaired 7.5ft pillars. They used to be dark gray in color but I only had a chance to repair/paint them a light gray primer before halloween night came around(as seen in pics).

I lost alot of time and money this last Halloween but I still did the best I could weather permitting to redo alot and make it a somewhat successful night(without normal walk-thru though..). It was pretty bad if it completely snapped three of my 2x4" upper support beams that hold my partions together! We don't have tornados here but we do get F1 equivalent gust around my parts.. Search the web for all the semi trucks that have flipped on "I-15 freeway in Fontana, CA" 1/2 mile from my community. Its really bad!

So yes I do have nasty winds around here regularly about 7 months out of the year. Kinda getting used to it after 23 years in this area.. If you see my pics I had 5 fog machines going but most blew away instantly while taking photos too! Oh well, it is what it is ya know!...

Yes. As I said I can appreciate that the winds are a problem. Being in the middle of nothing but flat land, winds can be a problem around here too. I'm thinking about reinforcing my tombstones with cement bases, or something heavy to keep them from blowing over, instead of wire-y welding rods stick into the ground a few inches. But with our October's being -10C and colder its difficult to get my newly added fog chilled enough to stay low and poor out the bottom of my MIB. And being tucked away from any main streets, and constantly adding more elaborate props, it may get to be more work than is worth it. Unless word gets around somehow that my yard is the yard to visit. Though my "haunt" doesn't hold a candle to many, with a low budget, and inaccessible materials and such, it's hard for me to believe that I'll get more and more people coming around.

I know what you are feeling. We get wild winds here in the Las Vegas Valley. I am up in the hills and the wind has knocked, torn, trashed, and pummeled everything I try to put in the yard. Almost everything is made of wood and nailed within an inch of its life......
Good luck with the repairs and keep plugging along. ONE year, maybe ,it wont be so windy...

I feel your pain about the winds. The Santa Anas are horrendous! I can deal with cold, rain, heat, just about anything. But when the winds start blowing things around, the damage can be terrible. You just have to prepare for the worse and hope for the best, I think.

Wind has ruined more than one Halloween for us, never to that extent & never winds that high, but high enough that I didn't put out a lot of stuff last year & the fog machine was only useful because it was in a coffin, but most of it still blew right away.

    Good luck on rebuilding.
