So, due to an awkward, yet perfect, location for my haunt, I have to advertise. In '09, I made a simple 8x11 flyer that I copied at Kinkos. In 2010, I created my first 4x6 postcard. And I've already designed most of the one for 2011. Does anybody else do this? And what do you think of my designs? Do they catch/create interest? Would you come?

very intriquing how to you bring this flyer to the public and you should state percentage of proceeds go to charity or holding a raffle to get the attention of more people

Well, for the time being, the haunt is free. It says so on the more detailed info on the back. Due to that, the distribution is limited to me being able to stick them on people's mailboxes. I'm saving up this year for a mailing, but I dunno if I'll make it to my goal. I'm also putting a more detailed description of the two sections of the haunt on the back of this year's but haven't come up with anything great yet. Forgotten forest is a walk through the fog-filled woods where actors in costume scare the pants off you. Dead End Manor is an abandoned manor in which various beings have taken up residence over the years, nothing jumps out, it's just creepy. To very different style haunts in one place.
Since Forgotten Forest is new this year, I'm going to see how it goes, and then maybe charge in a year or two, if it seems business is picking up. At which point, I'd more than gladly give 50% even to charity.
I suppose I should post the back image for 2010.

Nice I really like the forgotten forest flyer.

This sounds like a great location, the flyers look cool as well. If you are not going to charge or donate to charity then maybe try encouraging a food bank donation for admission. We tried this last Halloween and it was very successful, 2 huge bins for our local food bank.
What I am going to need is your standard flame thrower...

upon placing your advertising post cards on mail boxes. This is usually considered a "No-no" by the post office, at least I think it is...I know putting not mailable things in someone else's mail box is a no-no.
They need you to buy stamps for that ."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

Me too. It's a picture I took of the real woods where the attraction is located. The only editing I did was make the sky red.
What I gathered from a variety of sources was that putting things IN mailboxes isn't allowed, but on them, or in the newspaper box is.

Can also get you a rude phone call from shopping malls. I have had fans of mine print up copies of my flyers(at their expense) and put them on windows, then of course I get those complaining calls.
The first 50 flyers I put on cars was in the winter at a movie theater on a Sunday afternoon in a city 80 min. away. As far as I could ever determine, only one person showed because of the one flyer on his car, but he brought a carload and the people he brought began each bringing a carload! Before this I had been in business for 3 to 4 yrs. and not one person from that town had ever heard of my place.
I ask people where they are from or find out from caller ID or the checks they would send for a reservation. Being open almost every night of the year helps too."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
