I had to make a trip to the thrift store to donate a trunk load of items (things I'm getting rid of to make room for the new Halloween decorations) only to find the donation trailer closed for lunch. Like any good haunter I decided to pass the time until it opened browsing the thrift store. I wasn't expecting much but was very pleased to find a Talking Douglas Fir tree with the auxiliary jack sitting amongst all the Christmas trees. Quickly snatching him up, I continued around the store and found a battery powered skull flame post for my graveyard. Total price for both was $12.
The new Douglas Fir is already stripped and sitting with my other one awaiting installation into projects.
Now to find some additional stuff to get rid of so I have more room for props!

What do you make with the Douglas Firs?

Most people insert them into a skull so they can have a talking skeleton however I already have a bunch of those so I'm going to try to insert them into masks. I'm currently looking for masks that will fit without a lot of adapting. Unfortunately, none of the masks I have on hand fit well but I'll keep looking. With all the projects I already have started I'd rather put these on the back burner for a bit anyway.

I myself have not tried my local thrift stores.. I am too lazy to get out there and look. I do however go to my local flea-market or swapmeet to see what goodies I can find. I've found many things like bulk black felt or black cloth for walls of dark themed rooms. There was one time that I found a medical grade bucky type skull with a 4 piece inner latex brain with removable outer rubber nerves and vessels for $10. It had to be my best swapmeet aquisition ever!
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

I am always in the Goodwill & Salvation Army stores, I stop in them every time I go to the doctors office. Now that i seem to be walking better I will be adding the flea market too. I went to my 1st auction at a consignment store here a week ago & came home will all kinds of goodies for using to make props. I also got a canopy w tassels & 2 sets of gold curtains to start working on the design for my fortune telling ladies tent. AAhh yes & tarot card I got those at the auction, plus a great latex mask that has loads of long hair on it.
I also bid on 2 pitchers, one is from the middle east the other from persia says so on the pitchers, looks like those one ya see in the tents out on the desert. I also got a small bowl w/ cover that matches & it matches the pitchers. I bought a big ugly heavy gold bowl to sit on my Vampires table at the Vampire Ball next season. I'm going Tuesday night cause I have a silent bid on this antique oil & vinegar salt & pepper holder. Its huge with great bottles on it & has a handle and a large pedastol. She has 2 more pieces I saw in the store that I'm after, one is a silver candle holder that is very high & has silver grapes hanging from it & the other an elaborate gold lamp. All this will work great for the table of Vampires.
I also bought that great black sequin gown for Dracula's girlfriend a real find for $20.00 bucks.I got a whole bunch of stuff I've bought in the last month. Its a blast when you go to these stores & find perfect things to add to your halloween scenes!
