We're in the midst of a typical Wasatch Front inversion and the fog last night was awesome (except for the guy who crashed his plane).
I love it when you can't see the end of the cul-de-sac

I agree it was a very spooky but pretty night. The guys plane when down about a mile from me, our lights flickered but never when out luckily.

It's pollution, not fog. Asthmatic here, don't care for it.

I loved them too! (used to live in mountainous Oregon) We had the opposite view of you. Here's what you saw when you are above an inversion (picture is of normal and inversion states): the valley would just get socked in!

Unfortunately, I can't afford a house that high up in the mountain.

We didn't think so either but discovered if you are willing to live out in the boonies (and drive 45 min to work
) it made it more affordable.
An inversion is when it's warmer at higher elevations than lower elevations. It's usually the opposite which is why they call it an inversion. It has the tendency to trap fog (and smog), especially in the morning.
It was frustrating when you drive up to the mountains to go skiing but find it's warmer up there than down in the valley and it's too warm to ski. Grrr...
