Went last Friday on my break at Zellers (Canadian version of Target) close to my job and I hear on the intercom that Pringles are on sale for 0.99$, beside the dvds, in the far back of the store. A section of the store that no ones goes, I get 2 pringles, and look at the over priced dvds for fun. As I turn the corner, I see in the dark corner, 2 huge boxes, covered in dust and cloths. I realised they are huge Halloween props that every one forgot about. I ask a worker close by if they are for sale. He verify and comform, they are around 75% off.
BINGO! the dwarf, originaly 60$, got it for 14$, the Xray Grim Reaper, 35$, instead of 140$. You can imagine the fun I had walking back to work with the huge boxes. Since my wife was in Toronto, I couldn't get her to get me with the boxes, so, they stayed the weekend in my office. Everyone wanted my mini Butler, as I put him my cubicle.

Wow! I LOVE that reaper. Pretty sophisticated effect. I imagine a decent little microcontroller in there. Amazing the way the lights are sequenced and turn off in sequence as well as being able to all flash together.
Do you have the name or box for this thing so I can look it up?
Funny how you see things right after you need them. I had an idea for an x-ray effect and have been thinking about it for a week. This showed me I was on the right track. I wanted a nuclear accident victim who glowed and made theremin type noises when triggered. I thought of having a skeleten that could glow from behind a scrim exactly as this seems to be doing. One idea I had was a screen with a cutout behind the scrim and frosted plastic over that with a light behind the hole thing to shine through the bone shaped cutouts. I wanted something more like a light up skeleton but price/complexity had me going the simple route until I saw this thing. I wouldn't need to get another Arduino or other PIC type controller, write the software wire everything, etc. Even if I could find one of these for $99 it would be worth it because my only hack might be to re-route the sensor for how I want to trigger it.
