Well I am truely disappointed. When I first moved to Vancouver I lived in an apartment building, Halloween night came around and I carved a pumpkin and put in in the hall and got some candy to give out and zero kids came. I talked to some of my neighbours and apparently kids just don't ToT in apartment buildings, they go to the mall or some other neighbourhood. Seven years in that apartment until i could finally buy a house. Three years in the house and the trick or treating gets worse every year. Last year over half the kids that showed up were not in costume and only 10 groups of kids showed up. This year only one group of kids were in costume and I only got about 6 groups of kids. I went out on the street to see what was up and I was the only house on my block with lights on and pumpkins on the porch....
I tried to console myself by watching some halloween cartoons, sleepy hollow or donald duck's nefews and the witch... nothing. The most festive channel was Space, showing horror movies and the food network. Tried to attend the parade of lost souls down on commercial drive... canceled due to lack of funding.
I saw there was a member with the name "Halloween sucks in the UK" I may change my name to "Halloween sucks in Vancouver"
Anyone else seeing a massive decline in Halloween interest in their area?

It's depend where the neighborhood you live.
I live in Ottawa, and for 6 years, I lived in a part called Gloucester. Guess how many kids we had on Halloween... 2 kids.. that was it! Obviously, we didn't bother with decorations much.
5 years ago, we moved more to the east part of Ottawa. Now we always get more than 200-250, even past the 400 twice.

So many trick /treaters all died from all those razor blades in those apples!?
Or were they pins?
I live in a small village with mostly elderly people..now.
The total population has decreased too. Most places that offered really good wages and benefits are all gone too.

We all got "Tricked" very few got "Treated"."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

I am sorry to hear your area sucks because kids do not have the respect to dress up or the encomny goes down the drain.

I feel bad that you had a sad halloween, maybe next year toot your own horn by putting up a few flyers advertizing your halloween display or good treats. if you build it , they will come
but ya gotta tell em where. Next year will be better I am sure

Very true. I'm sorry to hear about your halloween- depressing really! I was fine till I read THIS thread! LOL! But if you build it, they tend to come. Waiting for them to come to you won't cut it, nor will a few pumpkins do the trick either. I started back up from nothing three years ago. I went from two or four kids, to twenty five just setting up a decent yard display. Every house remains dark all around me to this day. The neighborhood isn't inspiring at all, to say the least. I created the 'market' for tots with my ever growing display. Word gets out. People remember that cool haunted house and they seek it out the following year. The second year I got 40 tots and this year I got a little over 100 and in each treat bag I put a note saying to come by after dark next year, the display is getting even bigger! If you give them something to see, they'll come see it. It feels like a huge leap of faith setting up a larger size display- hoping lots of people will come by and make it at least worth all the effort. Wouldn't you know- they do. Try it. It's the three year plan. Keep building up more, even spreading the word if you want. Sometimes you have to bring the spirit to THEM for it to catch on. And if all else fails, be sure to RENT some good movies in case it comes down to it! Picturing you sitting there with no tots and nothing on tv is depressing the crap outa me! Best of luck scaring up some scares next year.
