I always thought my Sin would be pride, but after last week's adventures I'm thinking it might be Greed, or perhaps Gluttony. I created not one but two haunts, which had very little in common with each other.

The first, "The Children's Hour", was set up on Thursday for a city-wide competition. The results were supposed to be announced no later than today and we haen't heard anything so I assume that means we didn't place. Regardless, what was supposed to be a quick and dirty display wound up being much bigger and better than I anticipated, and proved to be an excellent dry run for the big day. How many times will you hear a frantic person (me) calling out "Where are the bogeyman's pants? I can't find them anywhere!" Fortunately a nearby vampire helped out with a spare pair

More pictures of this display than you can shake a broomstick at here. Below are a few teasers:

Thanks! I thought they were a fun little touch, and proved to be a good backdrop for a character who came out to play on Sunday.

Seven Deadly Sins coming up in just a few minutes.

The Seven Deadly Sins turned out to be outrageously time-consuming, so much so that only about half the intended props made it out. Even so, I feel it blows all my preceding displays out of the water. The ToTs went absolutely crazy over it, and we were told repeatedly that we were the talk of the neighborhood. Cameras were flashing, phones were ringing, and the cops stopped by twice - once just to ask whether we wanted them to direct even more ToTs to see what we had created.

The hands-down most photographed prop of the night was Lucifer:

A startling percentage of people didn't understand why we had an angel in the middle of our display, which ultimately worked to my advantage. When I would ask a ToT who that was (or when one asked me) and didn't know, I would explain that Lucifer was the most beautiful of the angels before being cast from heaven for the sin of Pride. They'd take a second to digest what I'd said, then jump back shoting "It's the DEVIL!!!!" Not a one of my animatronics has ever gotten such a reaction.

On one side of Lucifer we had a mad scientist portraying scientific pride:

Balancing Scientific Pride was the Occult:

The ladies of Lust were also quite popular with both the ToTs and the male mannequins:

    Greed was just insane:

Part of Greed was this bride, who was married for her money before being murdered on her wedding night:

Ahh, Gluttony. Even the Lord of the Flies was about to make a pig of himself for this feast:

If only the demon hunter hadn't listened to that old wives' tale about vampires and garlic, he might not have been the victim of Wrath:

Envy. Although you can't see it, the woman with the demon lover is wearing an evil eye pendent:

Sloth. What I've felt like ever since Halloween! The skeleton hour glass just barely visible on the night stand was a particular hit.

    Wide shot:

Absolutely amazing, Ms Frog!! More than the gore, even more than the horror, I love Halloween for the fantasy of it all. Your "Seven Deadly Sins" fantasy is unique, imaginative and freakin insane. BRAVO!!

Thanks, fellow haunters! Coming from you (pl) I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Tannagasch, I wouldn't have thought to describe my look-and-feel as fantasy but now that you mention it, you're right. Some day I will do a traditional haunt (which I enjoy very much, BTW), probably Victorian gothic ghosts & vampires, but I love that Halloween gives me the freedom to mix things up in a way no other event permits. I can do tender, gory, religious, secular, beautiful, ugly, and somehow come up with something that works.

If you haven't visited my web site, you might want to take a peek when you're through perusing everyone's haunts from this year (I know, as if - I'm so overwhelmed I'm savoring them a few at a time). I think you'll particularly enjoy the mythology worked into 2008's "Wastin' Away at the Midnight Margarita."
