Thread: Proper Send Off for Your Pumpkin?

My family and our friends dispose of our Christmas trees in a bonfire after Christmas

and I would love to create a tradition for disposing of our pumpkins after Halloween


Does anyone do anything special?

Have any ideas?

We toss them into the air and let them smash on the pavement, then throw them in the garbage. Not very dignified but effective!

I keep mine in the house until I see the first sign of fuzz on the inside of the lid. Then they sit outside until the faces start to curl in, collapse and look hilarious. I take pictures of them all for my annual "Mushkin" photo album that gets posted on facebook. Well, I guess its not really an album, they just get posted in the 'mobile upload' file. I may make a whole album this year as I had 8 JOLs. My brothers and I never can get enough mushkins!

we have this idea this year that we are going to save the seeds and then plant them in summer to grow our own pumpkin patch. this will be our first time. soo......

We keep some seeds so we can plant more in the spring.

For the pumpkins, we have a viking funeral. We take the pumpkins to the river and let them float away -- sometimes with sterno flaming from inside.

There are so many great ideas... I wish I bought more pumpkins....

But I have some questions

1) Do mushkins smell Joey? Attract insects?

2) Tk421... Does anyone give you a hard time about floating your pumpkins down the river? Do JOLs sink or float?

LOLs do float!

My hubby likes to take them out into the desert/mountains and fill them full of holes with his .45 and then finish them off with the shotgun! Makes a spectacular ending while feeding the native critters!!

I always leave mine in the garden and let it rot down into my soil naturally.

If I had a yard, I'd leave them to rot in a corner of my garden, however, I live in a condo, so they go in to the dumpster.
I had to throw mine out tonight..... *sob*

We take them to a shooting range and shoot them up. That or a friend of ours has swords and we hack em up.
