Sync video with Props??? Arrrrgh!!

Hi guys. Any help here would be great. I'm already planning my Halloween spectacular for next year. It will be more of a show than a display: a Pirate theme with a battle between a fort and a ship, a talking parrot etc.

The thing is, I want the show to be completely automated. I have VSA to run my servos and sound. I am going to buy a Chauvet DMX unit to control my pneumatics etc. But I also want to use a video projector to shoot images onto a screen.

In the battle between the ship and the fort, the fort will be a prop with pneumatic cannons, but the ship will be a video projection.

HOW IN THE WORLD am I going to sync the video up to the show. VSA has an audio track but there is not video channel. That's too bad because it would greatly simplify the sync problem.

Anyone have any tech experience with this?

Thanks.

Geoff

As my Halloween year starts I'm looking at prop building and it would seem that one of the skills I will need to master is LED's. A few of the questions I have are:

Best place to get them?
Preferred type or types?
Is there an ultimate LED FAQ?

I'm pretty interested in the third because I don't like pestering people with newbie questions. Something that wil teach me how to power them, connect them, etc.

Thanks,

Ok, so I'd love to make a three axis skull but I have no idea where to start. I have NO experience what so ever in this field but would love to learn. I have until next halloween which should be more than enough time. Any suggestions on a good place for a beginner to start learning? Either that or could someone point me in the direction of a very in depth guide so I can figure it out from there? :)

Thanks,

How To Create A Digital PC Based Haunt Audio Control System

One of the biggest problems I faced in this first year of my walk through was unreliable and variant stereo equipment. All my audio was running through a hodge podge of mp3/ipod, cd, second hand stereos and speakers.

I was trying to come up with the most reliable system I could think of to operate the audio for next years haunt. I have some ideas, but have no idea how (or if) it can be implemented.

What I would like to have would be a PC setup with each different digital file loaded up and running on a loop and pipe each audio to different speakers in the section of the haunt that uses that track. At this point, I am not looking to incorporate triggered audio or prop specific audio. I would leave that to the individual props.

But to have my outside speakers playing my thunder and lightning track, my main haunt speakers playing my ambient general haunt "soundtrack", my forest to be playing my outdoor "crickets" soundtrack, my darkest room playing my "whisper" track, etc.

Thoughts? Can this be done with a single sound card with multiple outputs (does this exist)? Multiple sound cards in the same PC (if so, how many can you put in one PC)? What software could you use?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

PVC Candles Rewired for AAs

I made the PVC candles for 2009, mine are made from 4" PVC, bolted together in groups of 3's and 5's and only have about 2" of Great Stuff at the top of candle (leaving the remaining tube empty with room to drill and attach the battery pack in one of the candle. I would like to rewire the flicker tealights to a single 2 AA battery pack for each group, instead of the button batteries.

Image: http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/3305/dscn5132.jpg

The first is a normal Dollar Tree flicker tealight, the second is from the Christmas Tree Shop (and the only one that looks like it has a circuit board) and the third is a Dollar Tree flicker tealight that you turn the base as the on off switch (in the picture is two lights so you see all the components).

I don't know how to string together LEDS and if the one with a circuit board would pose a problem. I like the three different types of flicker, so would like to use all of them. Also I would like to keep cost down by grouping the LEDs instead of a new battery pack for each tealight.

Thank You, Carey

Remote Controlled Bell Ringer

Hey Everyone,

I was curious to know if there are any electrical guru's in the audience that could help me with this. I've got an idea for a prop that requires a little upgrading. I need a remote controlled Bell Ringer. Basically the idea is a remote control button that an actor can keep in his pocket and when pushed, it remotely would ring a bell sitting on a table or mounted on a wall somewhere. Now, the bell would need to be activated by two devices. A remote control hidden in the actors pocket and by a foot button hidden on the floor that another actor can press to activate. The activated device would be an actual battery operated bell. If anyone out there has done this before or likes a challenge, please let me know. I'm looking for some advice or tips.

Greetings,

I'm a "professional" actor but I'm looking for more tricks to add to my repertoire. All of the horns I've seen available (Woochie etc) are typically too small for my liking or are pretty basic. I'm looking for a general guide that I can work with to make something a bit more creative, but definitely not wired. I've googled my heart out and poked about this site quite a bit with no results. Does anyone have a good tutorial on making your own custom, light-weight horns?

Thanks!

Thanks!
