I hope to do more of these threads but I thought I'd start with the 30's. Which films you do you think are Overrated/Underrated from the 1930's? Discuss...

For Me it would have to be...

Overrated: Dr. X

Runner-up: The Black Room

Underrated: Murders In The Rue Morgue

I love The Mystery Of The Wax Museum so I couldn’t wait to see Dr. X which was made before Mystery but has the same director, some of the same cast and is also shot in Technicolor but it just isn’t as good as Mystery. I do enjoy the film and plan on revisiting this one sometime soon but for now it ranks up there as my most overrated Horror film of the 1930’s

The Black Room plays much more like a costume melodrama than a horror film, much like the Tower Of London, but isn’t nearly as satisfying.

It never ceases to amaze me how little love Murders In The Rue Morgue gets. It has great direction and atmosphere, one of Bela’s best performances and it’s the closest a Pre-Code Universal Horror film ever gets to living up to the to the reputation of being a Pre-Code film.

New Christmas Carol Scary?

My wife and I went to the new Christmas Carol last night, and I have to say this movie was the darkest take on the story I have ever seen. Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't scary or horrifying, but it was very dark considering Disney was the maker of the movie. The ghosts made the show.
I think many of you would like this movie for it's creepiness. The ghosts and settings in some of the scenes were creepy. If you like the story of A Christmas Carol I think you should check it out. It is NOT a warm a fuzzy version of the story. I will be adding this to my DVD collection, it is the perfect movie for making the transition from the Halloween season to the Christmas season.

Thanks, Dan

Holy Cow, I thought I had seen it all, but what is arguably the most disturbing movie (and sick) ever made is being remade. The question I ask is why. The one and only time I ever watched this movie was in 1985 and it had absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. From the absolutely horrifying rape scene (The most brutal rape scene in cinematic history) to its revenge mutilation scenes this movie should have had an X rating.

Am I crazy or what? I just did not think this flick was good at all. The actors were not believable and there was nothing really scary, I've seen better on TV in old Hitchcock shows. Low budget and it shows, no where near the league of Night Of The Living Dead. Looks like they got everyone hooked with a commercial and a viral campaign. I just hope it doesn't open the flood gates for other cheapo horror film knockoffs. There's enough of that on UTube already.

My buddy told me it was a horror flick and I wasted a good movie pass!

Friday the 13th: Part 8 Jason Takes On Manhattan Solved

There is a scene in this movie that everyone picks on. I think this bugs a ton of people, and I think I solved it. This is in my opinion what really happened.

This will *contain spoliers of some Friday the 13th movies*, so please don't go any further if haven't seen them:

Jason is on the big boat (Lazarus or something), and than the people leave the boat on a row boat, and than after they row the boat all the way to the shore of New York City, Jason just suddenly appears in the water, and goes up the ladder. Well, this has puzzled people, and I think because of this scene, many people might hate this movie.

Well, my suggestion is that Jason took a rowboat. I know many people probably think??

I know there was only one rowboat on that cruiseship that we see, but maybe on the other side of the boat, there was another one. Maybe, that's why Jason never went down the ladder to get them. He figured they would be gone by the time he went down, and he saw there are no other rowboats on that side of the boat. Surely, a cruiseship has to have more than 1 rowboat. I remember watching a movie, and a rowboat was even on board, and they threw it over. I don't know what that movie was.

So, why didn't they show another rowboat, or him going after them the whole time. It's because these movie likes to surprise people. What fun would it be for us to see Jason going after them in a rowboat anyway? The other 2 explanations could be he swims (but I like this one because he's afraid of the water- he drowned), and the other way is maybe he went through a sewer line (like at the end of the movie).

I can't take the thing that he just transported himself from position a to position b. If that was true, why didn't he surface in New York before they got there.

_________________

Now, the only question about this movie that I have in which someone can help me figure out is why kill the principal. The rest of the people make a lot sense to me. The camp counselors killed Jason by not rescuing him, and the camp counselors killed his mother so he goes after anyone that resembled camp counselors or even just regular teens because he blames that group of people for doing one or the other. He doesn't go after kids like the 6th movie.

He also will go after people that threaten him like in the 6th movie he goes after police (with guns), paintball people (with weapons), this movie (the guy with a knife), the cruiseline captain (because he wanted to sink the ship), the gangster in this movie (because he wanted the girl), but I just can't figure out the reason for the principal. When he was killed he was sitting in a something (I don't know what.).

Maybe, the reason he wanted to hurt the principal is because he knows that the girl was pushed in the water by the father.

Wow - here's a cool little feature on the AMC website this month!

Your chance to watch some really fangtastic horror flicks free of charge. Nothing like a little cheese to go along with your Halloween beverage of choice. These are among some of my favorites in the genre and I know you will find at least one you haven't seen before and will completely dig!

Included are genre classics like *Fiend Without A Face, Devil Doll, How To Make A Monster, The Horror Of Party Beach, The Undead, Voodoo Woman, War of the Colossal Beast* and the one - the only - *Werewolves On Wheels*.

I lied in bed for an hour until I was so tired that I could no longer think about the movie and finally fell asleep, yes, with the lights on!

Hey everyone! Hoping someone can help me out here. There was a movie advertised over the summer I think about a thief that breaks into a house to rob the family but then there's already another thief or creature or something inside the house and the guy actually ends up protecting the family who lives in the house from this other person. I had forgotten all about it and for some reason it popped into my head but now I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. I must not have added it to my Netflix queue when it was coming out. Usually when I see an ad for a movie I want to see I look it up on Netlfix and put it in the saved section right away so I won't forget but this time I guess I didn't do that. My description of it probably isn't the best but does that ring a bell with anyone? Thanks!
