Hooookay. Here's the deal.

My best friend is getting married in November. I am a bridesmaid. And I'm honored to be a bridesmaid.

Really, I am.

But...

In the first place, the dress she has picked for us is ugly. I'd go so far as to call it FUGLY. Oh, sure, it looks great on the model - who has no boobs, hips or butt (or tummy, in my case). But when I did a search to see the style on REAL ladies... Oh. Oh my.

Unless you look like Kate Moss, just... No. I saw slim girls in this dress, and they looked chunky. I actually AM chunky. And the big girls I found wearing it? Oh, lawd. Lawdy, lawdy. Just NO. Even better, nine times out of ten it was used as an alternate MATERNITY bridesmaid dress. This does not bode well.

And then there's the shoes. She's picked these gawdawful, atrocious silver heels with lots of straps and bows. I have incredibly wide feet. Strappy shoes NEVER fit me. And the heel? Sure, it's only two inches, but it's not a wide heel. She knows darn well that I can neither walk nor stand on thin heels like that. For the love of crap, SHE HERSELF nicknamed me Wipeout in high school - and I don't surf, if you get my meaning!!

And I know, I know, it's her wedding, she has the right to expect us to wear any darn thing she wants us to wear. If she wanted us to wear black Hefty bags, we'd have to. (For what it's worth, I could ROCK that look...)

But here's the thing. My friend, god love her, is somewhat less than realistic about finances. She's a military brat, and a self-proclaimed Daddy's Princess. She has wanted for nothing in all the time I've known her. Her PROM dress cost $350, if that gives you any indication of things.

I am not a rich girl. Heck, I'm barely even considered lower-middle class. The dress she has picked is more expensive than I can afford. So are the shoes. Dear lord, I've dropped less money on work shoes. Not to mention that she's getting married in Baltimore, and I and my husband will have to take 3 days off from work (no paid vacation, no personal leave, no sick leave) to attend, plus a hotel. WTF is she thinking???

And, true to her usual self, she doesn't seem to understand my concerns about the heels, the straps, etc. (I've yet to bring up the money issue - probably best to save that for face-to-face conversation.) She just responds with lots of "LOL"s and exclamation points.

Deary, I'm serious. I'm going to be stumbling down the aisle ahead of you in shoes that I cannot squeeze my feet into, and will probably twist my ankle (for the millionth time in my 29 years) on those tiny little heels and have to be hauled to the alter by your other bridesmaid.

(Never mind the fact that I will NEVER wear either the fugly dress or the gawdawful shoes EVER again. And as for selling them? Yeah. My search also came up with people trying to sell their used versions of the dress, too, and ain't nobody buying. It's just that bad.)

What can I do?

The Texas law removes legal risks of saying "Merry Christmas" in schools and protects traditional holiday symbols, as long as more than one religion is also reflected.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday signed a law protecting Christmas and other holiday celebrations in Texas public schools from legal challenges — but also stressed that freedom of religion is not the same thing as freedom from religion.

It was a serious tone for an otherwise fun bill-signing and should bolster the governor's Christian conservative credentials before he travels to Washington for the Faith & Freedom Coalition's "Road to Majority" conference.

Dubbed the "Merry Christmas" bill, the bipartisan measure sailed through the state House and Senate to reach Perry's desk

I've taken some time off of Halloween to pursue other dreams. However, one of those dreams requires capital so I placed a Crowd funding campaign on Gofundme.com. I would really love it if my fellow haunters would take a look at my campaign and help me get to 100 dollars so my campaign can be searched by everyone.

If you want to look at the Campaign go to http://www.gofundme.com/37dlvk and have a look. If you are feeling generous donate.

Also on a completely different topic... I now have three skulls corpse and I have to say each one has progressively gotten better. Will post pics as soon as staining and distressing is complete.

*sigh*

Maybe it's just because I'm not posting year-round, but lately I've noticed that whenever I post in a thread, it suddenly goes quiet and gets shuffled out of rotation. :( Even when the conversation is lively, once I chime in, everything seems to go dormant.

Maybe it's the time that I post. I have a crazy work schedule, and often end up poking around and posting during what would be a normal person's work day.

Maybe it's the fact that it's not quite close enough to Halloween for some of the seasonal members to come back yet.

Maybe I'm just boring. :(

Does anyone else ever have this problem?

Maybe I should just go back to lurking. Leave the posting to the pros.

When 2nd Lt. James Cathey's body arrived at the Reno Airport , Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather on the tarmac.

During the arrival of another Marine's casket last year at Denver International Airport , Major Steve Beck described the scene as so powerful: 'See the people in the windows? They sat right there in the plane, watching those Marines. You gotta wonder what's going through their minds, knowing that they're on the plane that brought him home,' he said. 'They will remember being on that plane for the rest of their lives. They're going to remember bringing that Marine home. And they should.'

Hello, everybody!

Awhile back I posted onto HalloweenForum asking for suggestions and ideas for designing a witch cottage. I got a lot of great advice and input! Additionally, a fellow member (Pumpkinhead625) created a wonderful poem to accompany this teaser. Here it is in all its glory... Tis the Season of the Witch!

http://vimeo.com/user6396499/svw

Plot Outline:

An ancient power struggle between warring spirits is about to be rekindled in the most unlikely of places: a small-town high school in the Midwest. Now Charlie, his best friend Griz, and amateur reporter Phoebe must unlock the mystery, stop the evil forces that threaten the school, and save prom all in one, blood-soaked night.

I think he tried to carry on that whole Doors experience but there's no real Doors w/out Morrison but good on him for having a career long after his lead singer died on him.

He died of bile duct cancer. I've never heard of bile duct cancer. I mean I know you can get cancer pretty much everywhere, but I think he's the first person I've ever heard of that had it.

I was VERY into them in jr. high. *I don't even recall who got me into them but I got ob-freaking-sessed with Morrison. *I had this poster on the back of my BR door until the day I moved outta the house.

I read No One Here Gets Out Alive almost as much I read Are You There God It's Me Margaret? *I bought his poetry books & even own American Prayer.

I still have this button somewhere:

Somewhere along the way I realized Morrison wasn't a god, he was just another alcoholic musician that didn't have a completely cliche death. *There's worse ways to die than in a bathtub in Paris.

So I work for a major home improvement store as a head cashier and I really like my job. I really love getting materials for prop building for free or cheap. I think I have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars over the past three years, and learned so much from my co-workers about building stuff. I also have some good friends in the departments that help build stuff that I can't do. Not to mention all the people I get to help with their projects in some form or another. I'm usually the go-to for those odd projects, because everyone knows that I think outside the box.
However recent changes are driving me to the breaking point and I'm not sure if I should start looking for another job.
We recently changed store managers. Our new manager promised to get rid of the dead weight, which he has done really well with so far. But he also made other changes that make no sense. He moved a department manager to my department (the front end/Customer Service) that knows nothing about the area. We didn't like it, but we have tried to work with him. Our new department manager wants nothing to do with us and provides no support. Our area is very hands on, but he disappears and does things he shouldn't like get carts while refusing to answer his phone (our cashiers' and customer service peoples' one life line). When we ask him for help, he tells us he is busy and to get someone else.
We have tried talking to our zone manager and store manager, but they refuse to listen. Now my fellow head cashiers are refusing to do some of their duties in protest (mostly minor things). The whole front end is falling apart and everyone is coming to me because they know I won't blow them off like other people do. I'm trying to keep up with everything, but it is really getting out of hand.
I'm pretty friendly with both my zone manager and the store manager. They have hinted that our department manager isn't going to last much longer, but I really don't see any end to this nightmare.
I have made it clear that I want to leave the front end and move out onto the floor. This has been my plan for a while and I have even applied for open positions in other departments. But my managers have told me that they "don't want to move me, because I'm so good at my current job and they couldn't replace me". My store manager had mentioned in passing that he wanted me for department manager, but he knew that it would cause a problem with one of the other head cashiers. This head cashier is a vengeful old woman who would go out of her way to make my life as difficult as possible if I ever got the position, because as far as she is concerned they should have made her department manager years ago.
So now I don't know what to do. I have considered transferring to another location, but the two stores closest to me are not good choices either. The one store is full of nasty people and the other is run by my previous zone manager and I hated him. I really don't want to quit, but at this point it looks like I'll have to find another job. The sad part is that I quit my last job for almost the same reason.
Any advice?
