We home school our kids and just booked a trip to Disney through a home school group. The tickets were a steal because they were through their education package so each child has to attend a 3 hour Disney class during our visit. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that their physics class takes you behind the scenes inside Disney's Haunted Mansion to see how the effects are done. Although, we all know how they do it, I am still excited as I LOVE the Haunted Mansion!!!

Now I just have to find something to fill my time until our trip in November!!!

Oh, I know.....planning for October!!
Now I wish I was doing the Haunted Mansion theme this year. :D

I worked at a neighbor's haunt, last year. He made a cool costume, with 4 arms. Watch this video.

http://youtu.be/NvzdK7Qb4zY

For the costume all he did was this:

1. Buy two long sleeve black shirts from the thrift store, for around $3 each.

2. Cut the sleeves off of one, and stuff the arms with cotton, cotton stuffing from Michael's, like they use for stuffed animals. This makes the arms look smooth, and holds their shape.

3. Bought two hands from the dollar store. All they had were right hands, so I just had the one upside down. Hie used a stapler to staple the hands to the end of the sleeve.

4e. Then, he just sewed the sleeves on below the ones on the shirt, and connected the hands with some clear fishing string. It less than $10.

They have the hands can be bought at dollar stores. Good luck.

Ps; I posted it here, because the app wouldn't let me post if in tutorials, or costumes.

Chicago Reader newspaper, you can see it on Facebook- Ravens Grin.
I didn't know the young couple awhile ago who came here on a quiet Saturday night were going to be writing about my haunt.
Now that I have read it, I would tell her a few things!
No, those cats along the fence line ("with bloody paws!") are NOT cut out of wood, rather STEEL!
No, the tool I was going to amputate your finger with were Not "Garden Clippers" but rather Aviation snips for cutting Metal!
And.. that fact that you liked your tour of The Ravens Grin enough to be impressed.. , well, guess what? You and yours got the same tour I give everybody!
If the customers are liking the tour and they told me ahead of time that "time" is not a consideration in their plans, then I just keep on keeping on with what I am doing to entertain them, (I'm having fun too, you know!) So maybe three hours went by as you were in the house?
Big deal.
HAHAHAHAHAHAH!

She involved the whole town in her article and mentioned that maybe the street seemed quiet and empty because everyone was inside of my house getting ready for them to come in here, as in wearing robes and preparing to do evil things to them because they were strangers in the town!
(We almost never do that !)
Yes, there are more dead here than living.

Neighborhood Halloween Event

Okay, apparently my neighbors have had enough of the TOTs telling them about how great our yard haunts are compared to theirs, so needless to say I...

Okay, apparently my neighbors have had enough of the TOTs telling them about how great our yard haunts are compared to theirs, so needless to say I was very surprised when three of my neighbors approached us to ask if this Halloween my husband and I would organize a neighborhood event that they can all participate in. Sounds like fun, right? BUT, they want us to come up with the idea and TELL them what they need to do. Understand that our neighbors' Halloween decorations range from the blow-up "jump" houses to a carved jack-o-lantern, while we go all out each year to create a whole theme. Also, we typically go for the scare factor, but some of my neighbors don't want to go that far. I've never had to tone down my enthusiasm, so I am at a loss on where to go from here. I just know that for a neighborhood event to be any good at all, plans need to start being made now.

So, I come to you, my friends, for any suggestions you might have for me in the way of themes that would work for the novice haunter like my neighbors to the more advanced, like my husband and I. Seriously, at this point I am drawing a blank, so any thought would be welcome as long as they are able to be repeated in mixed company! My neighbors and I live on a cul-de-sac, so we pretty much have the entire circle to work with. My husband and I are pretty handy at building things, but I cannot say the same thing about all of my neighbors, so please keep it simple. I really don't want to wind up having to do all of the builds myself!

Let those juices flow, people, and help me to figure out what I can do to bring these folks into the spirit of the day!

Hey, there are New 2013 halloween items over on the Harvest Preview 2013 catalog...

Hey, there are New 2013 halloween items over on the Harvest Preview 2013 catalog (made colored catalog text a clickable link for everyone) on the LTD Commodities website available now. They have not yet been posted to ABC Distributing's/ Lakeside's site yet (these are sister companies owned by one parent group and their websites look nearly identical). Some fun halloween stuff like:

Hanging Clown, Hanging Bat, Interactive Skeleton in Hammock, Medusa head (looks like same sold in stores last year), Garland, lighted Ghost Ground Breaker (cute for the little ones), set of 3 LED lighted window bats, 10-count Speed Shotz Finger Lights, plus more...

I had purchased the snoring skeleton in the hammock from ABC a number of months ago and saw it had sold out so called Customer Service for LTD. Basically the 3 companies have the same stock although it occasionally differs. She said that ABC was expecting a shipment of the hammock skellies within a week so I could either order from LTD or wait for them on the ABC site. Told her I was looking to add one or two more for my halloween display this year and that's when she mentioned that the Preview catalog over on LTDs site was online now and they had a number of neat halloween items listed in it. Had to share the news with you guys!

BTW the Snoring Skeleton in Hammock is pretty tiny and inexpensively constructed but the mechanism that makes him breathe and snore (his little chest goes up and down while he snores) is worth the price IMO. Hope to upgrade him to a better or different body down the road.

So the year before last I bought a 10ft by 25ft sheet of black plastic to do a make shift wall in my last apartment for my display. I knew it was a bad idea, but no one was going in my house and there weren't any live flames.
Of course now I have a sheet of highly flammable black plastic that I don't know what to do with.
I am not using it again in my display. I don't need to make a wall in my current place and I wouldn't want to use it for that anyway. I really don't want to throw it out. I know it was cheap and its a fire hazard, but I feel like I should use it for something.
The only thing I could think of at the moment is to start using as drop cloth when I'm painting my props or doing something messy.
Any more ideas?
