Well...........it's done. I finally had time to finish the Elly Kedward stone. My last steps were to add some lichen and some moss. I found this site: http://www.grimvisions.com/how-to/cr...n-a-prop-piece Which features a method for making amazing looking lichens using paint & craft sand. I decided to try it out. And all I can say is that I really need to master the 'less is more' mindset. I was having a lot of fun making the lichens and I really ...
It's been over a week since my last blog post, and I don't have much to show for it. I got suckered into helping hubby with his garden- even though I told him I didn't want to do a garden (too much work, and too much time taken away from Halloween projects!) But he has a way of making me feel guilty & helping him without even saying or doing anything! Now that's skill! I wish I knew how to do that! Anyway, I haven't really been able to spend much time on the Elly Kedward stone. ...
This is the stage of tombstone making that I've been really looking forward to and really fearing at the same time: painting & finishing. It's exciting because it's really going to start looking like a real tombstone.. and scary because I really don't want to mess it up! Especially because I'd have to post the pictures for all of you to see my failure!! lol Anyway, the first step was to hit it with either spray paint or acetone. Well I knew for sure I didn't have any acetone, ...
So I was pretty jazzed to do this next part- attaching the mirror frame to the foam. But first, I had to prep the frame. I removed the backing & the mirror, and lo & behold the back of the frame isn't flat, it's hollow! So unless I want to use approximately 5 gallons of glue to fill it in, I needed to put something there. I have heard other people recommend Great Stuff expanding foam for this sort of job, but since I didn't have any, I decided to make due by gluing on foam scraps. ...
Welcome back for another exciting episode of Franki Stein's Stones.. or FrankiStones! erm.. maybe not.. Hey I never said I was a comedian!! lol Anyway, I still have a good amount of pink foam left over from The Great Tombstone Disaster of 2008. So I grabbed a few slabs and started planning out my stone. When we made the tombstones in 2008, we quickly found out the hard way that they were no way near as stable as they should be. Which could be because we didn't build ...
