I was in the same situation about 2 weeks ago. I was farting around in my shed and i found one of my animated deers from Xmas. I stripped the entire motor assembly from the deer, and I mounted it to my post with the wheel on it. I connected the same exact rod that was on the deer to a low point on the wheel.
When turned on, the wheel moves to the left about 3 spokes, then as the motor gets stuck, it switches direction, making the other side turn about 3 spokes.
It gets the awesome rocking wheel effect perfectly. Also, it makes a ceaking wood sound when turned on.
Ill add some pictures later when I get home, right now im at work.
