As far as making an Iron Man costume, go check out the fabric stores for the metallic fabrics or look at the heavier cloth/vinyl and experiment with the metallic spraypaint on them! That is all the really pricey IM costumes will be...
It CAN be done!
I forgot... I always used to make my costumes. I learned to sew in college in the theater productions, so I am weirdly suited to building costumes.
Nothing wrong with buying them, but I do like the challenge of a from scratch costume!
