if the went as a gothic-(insert here) then that would be okay, but if it looks like street clothes its not a costume-no candy.
an 8yr old emo i could understand,...maybe.

I used to get riled up by the no costume teenager thing. But, the last couple years, as my neighbor has gotten "too old" to Trick or Treat, and started throwing a Halloween Party across the street instead, I really have no complaint that my house, and only my house, is a regular part of that party. So, I get a bunch of boys and their dates in no costume around 9PM every year, in between their movies.

Now, were they going house to house, I might still be a little perturbed, but I really can't complain about the 17 yr olds still wanting to come see my house, and yet not wanting to go all out on a costume when they're clearly on a date.
