You could always get one of those large plastic pots at the garden stores, have you actor stand in it and then throw a bunch of the moss around his feet (easy in/easy out). I like the vine idea too. The less he looks like a person...the bigger the surprise. (Especially when everyone is used to scarecrows, etc. jumping at them.) But the plant move? Awesome idea!
