well here is my thought: I am going to do a swamp so, it will be dark the scareactor will be dressed in black then I will go to hobby lobby get a bunch of fake vines and cover the actor have the actor stand next to a real/fake tree, heck I dont think they will even need a pot, if we do the vines right. When the ppl walk by the actor comes alive. It may be a good idea for the actor to not be a very large person in this case smaller might be better.
